I thought the purpose of trimming off the fanleafs was to let light through in order to let the bottom buds mature. So trimming off those buds would seem to defeat the point of that.
Why do you want to cut as close to the stem as possible?
I think he would cut as close to the stem as possible to avoid any regrowth and also minimise the possibility of the plant becoming sick from open wounds. Clean cuts and close to the stem is from what i have read and done the best for any type of defoliating.
I have not tried lollypopping yet in fact any defoliating feels counter productive at first but i am going to give it a go this time round but as it is my first try i am going to air on the side of caution and not create such a high line on the plant. Will this still help the yield?
