Zif & Kal do Master Kush x Sweet Skunk

Kalbhairav

Hello all :)

Zif and I decided we would do another double grow along to sample this busty, enticing cultivar.
I always like to think of this Chimera offering as being one of the hybrids in his collection that is uniquely Canadian. I don't know anything about the origins of the BC Master Kush, but I'm sure she's a selection that is only known within Canada. Given the name, she's probably quite an old school cut. Along with the Canadian heritage Sweet Skunk, I'm hoping this hybrid brings 90's appeal to the palate.

Notes so far:
Both Zif and I cranked the flower switch on the 19th March. That makes it nearly 3 weeks into flower from this post.
I've got only one fairly big plant under two 200w Migro LED cobs. I had two seedlings, but one snuffed it soon after poking its head above soil.
Pretty much all organic using various bought organic liquids.

I'll leave Zif to explain his much more refined grow.

Pictures to follow :)

Loading photos here is a ball ache.

First pic in the post above should come last.

As you can see, I had a breakage of the main stem. She bounced back fairly well. I’ll add one more pic from today. She’s looking a bit forlorn because she went through a dry patch (don’t ask) and then I may have overwatered her. Hopefully she’ll be back to health soon.

Epic! I'm subbed. You're last colab with zif was sweet. Multi-grows are such a good idea. Double the phenos, double the fun :)

What's the medium you're using? Is it coco?

Peace,
ak :smoke:

Hello ak,
Glad you enjoyed the last instalment.
This one has already been quite eventful for me with the snapping of the main stem. The SS hybrids are known to have strong but quite brittle stems, which I’ve found out.

Never grown just a single plant in my small tent before, so we’ll see.

The soil is the organic Biocanna Terra Plus. It’s a reduced peat mix with coco. This stuff isn’t cheap but comes without perlite (which I prefer), and is a little less harmful to the environment with the reduced peat.

Glad to see you getting your hands in the dirt again guys. Kal, these were some chunky dense flowers that were quite stinky when I grew out a few. Those that had the fuely slant from the MK and the incensy SS funk when burn were my favorite. All plants I grew out were potent. Good luck. You plant looks like it leans towards the MK side...can't wait to see these in full bloom. subbed.

Here's my contribution - 4 MKSS on 1 plant.

I, ah, took my time building this plant. She was around 12 weeks from the pop at this point, finally sporting branches from all of the seedlings.

104 days, and ready to flip. The rootstock is #1, the others are all grafted scions.

"Real life" has been quite a ride recently. Hoping for some time to breathe and some fine flowers to follow.

Dude. I have scion envy. That is a thing of beauty. Were they fem seeds?

Hope the ride calms down enough for you to be zen with your flowers (and take pics, obvs).

Yep - they are fems!

It's been a bit since I've grown out a Sweet Skunk hybrid. Really looking forward to that special something she brings to the mix. Easygoing growth so far is right on track!

These grafts have a nice balance - last time I almost buried one top under the canopy, and did bury another (thanks, stretch!). That plant had several NL2 x ChemD bx S1s I made, which turned out very nice. So all was well. =)

A throwback to that beast - 17 days into flower for comparison:

I’m going to have to start bending these two back branches, they’ve leaped in the last couple of days and starting to get closer to the filter hanging at the back.

Also got a bit of Mg def that I’m dealing with. Thinking mine might have a little more of the Sweet Skunk than first thought.

Also, the stink is already quite high. Definitely old skool aroma throughout. Hazy sweet with a sprinkle of spice.

I had melon early on that turned into a cheap sweet cider. Now it’s just stink

I finally went in for a resin rub on two of my four.

While the plants have been reeking of musk (even skunk) from early veg on, and have consistently had a spicy/hasy stem rub, the resin is almost the polar opposite.

One smelled almost exactly like exhaled lemon drop breath. Even the sweetness was there. Maybe a hint of pith - or the waxiness of lemon heads candies.

The other, louder, resin also had a hit of lemon, but much more very sweet gardenia riding over an herbal, lavender-like backbone.

Love how they explode into flower.

I think the stretch might be calming down on mine. The rootstock (left) and the scion with the narrowest leaflets (right) have stretched the most. The stacking is really nice, though, despite their leap towards the light.

The plant might like a little more horizontal training - especially if the stretch presses on for much longer - but I'm wary of snapping a branch. Heard a loud snap from the bonsai mom based on one of these as a rootstock while doing some light bending... but no visible damage... so far.

Burst a few more resin glands, this time on the other two scions. The nose on these is rich/complex across the board, but they also leaned towards a sweet, floral balance. One is noticeably orange-like, with lots of bitter pith balancing out the brightness. The other is strongly reminiscent of lime, with a little more of the musky funk than the others are putting into their resin to date.

It's still early going for the aromatics, though, so who knows where they'll land!

Ah man,
The stretch looks positively relaxed on your well groomed family, Zif.

My unruly teenager won’t listen to reason

Getting close to the lights - will bend them ‘very carefully’ tomorrow.

I’ve also already snapped a couple of branches already. Three in total including the main stem early on. One small stem I managed to tape back on and it took. The one below didn’t fair so well.

The very best kind of inspection. 🙂

Wow - she is as wild as they come, no doubt. Someone forgot to tell her that her mom’s supposed to keep her ‘dad’ in check!
