i think its pretty damn sporting to fight with skill and conviction.
What is so sporting about trying to knock someone unconscious in the first place.
Well, that's the sport. Knocking the other guy out, just like boxing. But in boxing, they have the standing 8 count. At the heart of martial arts is supposed to be honor and respect for your opponent. However, this has become somewhat perverted by the trash talking and commercial aspect of the game. I don't see the honor in hitting an unconscious opponent, that's all.
