traveling to holland...links

I'm curious... about how long does it take to procure a passport?

I'd sOoOOoo love to attend the ICMag Cup in 09... but not too sure how long it takes to get a passport. It's just over 4 months till then... is that enough time? I've heard from some it depends.

I've never applied for one, thus have never been out of the continental US. I can see no better reason than to make ICMag's event my first time to do so.

Thanks for any help/advice!

EDIT: Thanks for the great links! Lots of great and interesting info

It's about 3 weeks now. This page from the site gives you the approximate processing time.

What really blows is passports are $100!
:fsu:

EDIT: I got mine in less than 2 weeks, regular service.

From my research:

A friend of mine got a job in holland with the company mentioned below.
This company places foreign workers with international companies in Holland.

A place to live is something different since affordable houses are rather difficult to come by in the western region of Holland. amsterdam, rotterdam, utrecht etc

Most of the regular housing is semi goverment owned and people need to be on a waiting list in order to get such a house.
If you are willing to pay more rent you can get a free sector house. These houses are owned by commercial companies such as

I do need to read more but, is there any organized group?

I would be solo and I would like to hang with friends.

I very tempted to do this.

I read someone is going 4-15-09 to 4-25-09 That works for me.

Again pardon this post if I missed something.

Wow South! It's happening for me.. Wow indeed..

I'm open to share expenses in an an apartment or houseboat.

It's expensive at any level i see.. Might as well go in style.

Hi everyone, just figured since icmag cup 2010 is just around the
corner that I :bump: my thread a little. Anyone looking for a place
to stay can check out the links, and anyone that has some links
to add, appreciate if you post them and I will add them in the
first pages of this thread !!!

If you want something cheap, and where you can smoke weed
and hash 24/7 in the lobby or in your room check out AROZA hostel
on Nieuwindijk 23, (this is 5 minute walk from central station and
also from Rokerij, Daampkring 2, Greenhouse United, Barneys,) and
a whole sh*t load of other killer coffeeshops where you can chill,
get high, and buy some killer gear to take back to your place,
and then after 1am when they close -- just keep getting wasted

...this is if they are "smoker-friendly" of course !!!

later, southflorida

I am also going to be there during the IC cup. It is my first time, and I was looking at hotels on www.timeout.com but the reviews are all very mixed...
I will be there for 10 days (18-28) and would like to have a decent place to stay, a hostel is fine, just looking for a recommendation that is near Rembrantsplein or Leidseplein.
As far as c-shops, the list here http://www.timeout.com/amsterdam/search/?tag_id=4270&tag=coffeeshops&order=recommended jives well with what I have read here.
Looking forward to landing, finding a place to lay my luggage, and then get a bike and enjoy myself! Hope to meet some cool people and share in drink and smoke! :dance013:

it's possible to buy "SIM Only" here... but in all seriousness... you can get a phone included for the same price (SIM = 20 euros including 10 euros credit - phone = 20-25 euro with 10 euros credit)

just check any of the high street phone shops when you get here mate...they're everywhere...
