Does anyone here have or know of a spectrometer that’s not expensive and still reliable??

Hard to say, depends on your budget.

I have a spectrometer by Vernier, the new model costs 500+$ and has extended range in uv and ir.

Very reliable and works great via usb, would reccomend.

The one you posted is good but the price is way high...

Check out these, they need the optic cable to collect the light from the source

A better but more expensive model

Looks like nice kit, but I'm not convinced they are ideal for PAR measurement, but sure, they'll do the job but you'll have to do the PAR calculations manually as far as I can tell.
Please note this regarding the optic fiber

We recommend using the Vernier Emissions Spectrometer without an optical fiber for measuring spectra of large sources, such as the sun, or for comparing types of light bulbs. An optical fiber is recommended for analyzing the emissions of a gas spectrum tube.

I wish I could rent one from somewhere but I imagine not too many people rent spectrometers, do they have to be calibrated?

I ordered a cheap webcam and am going to try the little youtube thing. Should be an interesting little project.
