I’m looking forward to you sampling these flowers too :D

If your schnazz representations do have those background terpy nuances then maybe she definitely would add something to a nice chem cut. Interesting...

Very interesting. Funny thing, shortly after you said that, I saw a pic of a Chem (think '91) x Blueberry. Made me smile.

#2 has been the slowest drinker from early on. Had the darkest leaves from early on. And exhibited a curl from early on - that never really went away. I think my soil mix may be a bit too hot for her liking... Only a few lowers that stretched out to any real distance (one that did is shown) ...She's finally starting to fade and looks to be finishing soon... here she is at day 75:

Shoot, you’re certainly not going to be left wanting when it comes to sheer weight! :D

#2 probably smells a bit like a number 2 too? :D Sorry, couldn’t resist some puerile toilet humour. It probably doesn’t smell anything like it..

The fade is on target for harvest, or has it come too early? I must admit I’ve caved in and bought a small bottle of some mineral cal mag plus trace elements. The watering before last, I added 5 tsp per 7 litres and the plants didn’t even shrug. With this in mind I’m thinking liquid cal mag might be easier, plus stronger, in delivering what the plants are looking for. The trace elements probably help also. We’ll see I guess..

I’ve also been cruising the net looking at cob units. Really love the idea of getting a couple to replace the QB. I’m looking at the Optic 1 54w (plus their Optic 1 XL 100w - plus they have a sale on at the moment), the Migro 100w and some others. Those two options are really highly rated though. Only problem is the amount of money I’d have to fork out. Neither of them are cheap for a single unit! The Migro (made in Ireland) are such a great unit that can be daisy chained together. Not sure if you know of them but their efficiency is one of the very best (he tests his lights against all the leading competitors). Not sure if this would solve my woes but willing to give it a shot.

I have to say, I am impressed with the size of this cola for only maxing out at 380w of light.

Haha. Nah, first hit to the nose is a deep but subtle sweetness that oddly finishes with an almost lemony sourish smell. A bit of a roller coaster. I harvested the seeds from #1 and it’s still the more “offensive” smelling of the three. Will probably cut the seeded branches from #2 today.

Great question about the fade, Kal. I found myself wondering about this with #3. Actually, I was sure it was too early when she was really showing color at day 49 but obviously quite a ways from finishing. But I think she proved me wrong. I took a pic of her at day 68, just before moving her into darkness for three days and chopping her on day 71. Today I need to cut her up and put her in a grocery bag. I pushed her out a bit longer than originally planned because the sample I took of her did not have quite the punch I was hoping for. But man, she’s some of the most mouth coating/lip smacking herb I have smoked in a long time. Awesome flavor and smooth as silk on the inhale and exhale. Really surprised because she wasn’t dried or cured properly. The finger hash from her did provide the punch I was looking for though, so I am thinking she will mostly go to extracts if the extra time doesn't help bring the hammer. #3 at day 49:

And at day 68:

Check out that magenta stalk!

I have some cal mag plus trace elements as well. I didn’t use it under this COB. I hope breaking down does for you what you’re looking for, but from what I can tell your girls look happy. I am growing a cut of each of these under my QB and I suspect I will break down and use the cal mag, but first I will probably top dress with some dolomite again and see how far that takes them. I don’t plan on updating their progress under the QB, but here they were two weeks ago. #1, #3 & #2. I like that the clone of #2 produced better side branching.

It’s already obvious to me that I made a big mistake by not putting #3 in a larger pot than I did. The cut is growing much like the seed plant, insomuch that she drinks like a fish. Pretty much watering her daily. Oh well, will have to prop her up with some bottled nutes and see how she does. Going to hit some of VG’s BDB today to make F3s and just might hit the three #2s as well.

I did look at the Migro lights as you mentioned them earlier. I really like the adjustability of the light. Not to mention the fixture itself. Great looking light. I really don’t understand why I have better luck with the COB over the QB, but I sure do. I lit my generator yesterday and turned my QB up all the way... hopefully disaster isn’t waiting around the corner like in the past.

Happy Sunday!

She was chopped a few days later. Trimmed the plant up for grocery bagging a couple days ago. Dry enough to smoke on but no cure. So indulged in some early sampling the last couple nights. Both nights after about six to seven hits from my bong I was ready for bed within 45 minutes - quite powerful. Granted this was at night before bedtime and after long days - but as of now she packs more punch than #3, which does have a bit of a cure on her... really surprised how similar the two taste. Will report back after all three have been thoroughly sampled, along with some feedback from others. Just wanted to get some pics up and say that first impressions of #1 are very promising. :)

Speaking of #1, under the QB she is again proving to be a bit finicky. But that said, it hasn’t been an ideal run anyway, but the best of the three runs so far under this light. I hope to be able to reveg all three and put my favorite outdoors this year. But even if not my favorite, I want to put #1 outdoors regardless, in the same soil mix to see how she fares. Grabbed some flower pics of the three cuts under the QB for comparison.

Looking forward to hearing more! Just the look of her gives an impression of lofty presence.. Great bag appeal and I bet quite smelly.

Looks like you’re getting the hang of the QBs?

I got those Migro lights :D

Shmavis

Being-in-the-world
She weighed in just shy of 3oz. Can't complain there.

She has a sharper nose than #3, without a doubt, and dare I say skunky notes in the background... :dance013:

Don't have the hang of it just yet, but I am making progress - and that feels good. Really I didn't do much differently other than adding epsom salt every watering. Yet still a ways to go.

What?!? You're rocking your QB! :tiphat: Did you get the 400? I'm excited for you! I must say, I have been looking at them... I am tempted...

Kalbhairav

I got the Migro 200 set up. That’s already double the power of my small QB board which is around 130w from the wall at full power. I think having the two cob units will better distribute the light and lets me have plants at different heights. Overall gives better control (I hope).

Having said that I haven’t set them up yet. Going to wait till after I’ve finished the NLs.

Yeah man, adding the Epsom salts in large amounts seems to be part of the trick. Mine bounced back when I added a good portion and seem to be ok. In fact, I think I over did it a little; now got burnt tips..

Looking forward to the other Schnazz plants being popped. Are you still going to do the whole series?

Shmavis

Being-in-the-world
I don't blame you on waiting. I would finish out under the same light too.

Really looking forward to seeing how they work for you. I don't think I have run across any grow shows using that particular brand. I want to poke around and see if I can find some.

I agree, Epsom is a part of the equation. I still need to figure the rest. Burnt tips? I am sure I have you beat! :) Didn't want to get too crazy this round and add too many variables and just introduced the extra Mg. I have also each time under this QB ran temps and humidity more so where HID would be traditionally at, sans VPD targets. Will crank temp/humidity up next run, as I did under the COB. I am toying with the idea of running #1 in Hempy Buckets for better pH control, to see if it is a lower pH she wants...

I won't be popping any more seeds until late summer. I thankfully found out well in advance that I will have company - who haven't been here in many years - visiting this summer. They would not understand or appreciate my love for growing cannabis, so I didn't take any cuts because I thought I would not be outdoors this year. But I think I have a plan so depending on how successful I am with revegging I may need to pop a fem or two for outdoors. I don't think I want to risk #3 outdoors though, not sure she'd be able to finish. But maybe one is worth risking, or maybe an Arcata Skunk... hmmm.

So yes for #3 being popped late summer to kick off next fall's indoor run - that's the plan but you know what they say about the best laid plans of mice and men... ;) I do not, however, think I will follow up with #4 right on the heels of #3 as previously planned. If nothing else getting 100% germination from seed stock this old gives me confidence that I do not need to worry about the much fresher #4 being viable... so really should continue working on seeds that I have that may not be viable. But with #3 being feminized it will be much easier to work in some. Hope to pop five and run them in a dedicated grow, but if not at least two will get worked in. Mostly depends on where I find my mind come summertime.

Thanks, good Sir!

Very happy with the plants...

Round 2, under the QB, getting more color:

Those look to be In fine form..

Most interesting to me is the 'Purple Skunk-type' I thought I saw getting ready to express itself in #1, which never happened under the COB, but shows under the QB. Not sure if due to lighting difference or just sexual maturity of the cut...

Starting to foxtail at week 11 or 12 (can't remember if these were in the first or second batch of plants being put to flower one week apart).

A friend reported back that #3 smelled of blueberries. I did not pick up on any blueberry notes. So was surprised to find that I definitely smell blueberries in #3 under the QB. Grown under the COB exhaust was triggered at set temp/humidity targets. Obviously the funk was stronger since it wasn't constantly filtered. That said, under the QB the tent is being continuously exhausted yet I am still hit with a respectable level of funk when opening the tent.

I have smoked on #3 the most. A couple Saturdays ago I started in the morning with my coffee. Smoked on it all day. Found it to be a really comfortable hybrid effect. Nothing racy or even motivational but a euphoric uplifting of mind and body - a 50lbs lighter type effect that wears on for a good couple hours to go the opposite direction with a finish that puts back those 50, and adds another 50 to both body and head. I spent that Saturday trying to be productive in the garden - where there were many hours of work needing done. Every few hours I had to return to my bong to take six or seven more rips to find again the desire to push forward with the work. Each revisit put me back into that lighter happier head/body. The call of the couch would be too great if not smoking more. Have smoked on it a few times as a nightcap as well and have found it fits that bill nicely. Smells and tastes great, has a sweet side to it whereas the other two do not. Haven't smoked on them a whole lot - had a friend task me with sampling a bunch of flowers and concentrates. :-D

I am really looking forward to comparing those under the QB with those under the COB.

Happy Sunday!

That’ll be an interesting comparison, cob vs QB.. Looking forward to reading your notes :)

Have to say the pictures look exceptional! When I cut my NL yesterday I sighed at the amount of trimming I’m going to have to commit to. The number three looks as if it’ll be a joy to trim! About 10 minutes total :D

Those colours look beautiful as does the lighter feeling you describe. Sounds as if you’ve tapped the famed blueberry euphoria on the #3. Aesthetically pleasing on all levels it seems..

Amazing grow skills Shmavis
