I went to my first strip club in Reno too and one of the dancers was the best friend of a girl I hooked up with in Truckee. But that's a story for another day, :ROFLMAO:

So many times. Reno was the closest city to Truckee so we went down there a lot. About 30 minutes or so. Not sure about the song.

That was the lady saying $50.

That blooming onion looks tasty. So does that ribeye. Looks like good healing food, :)
Thanks buddy!it was good!

those trees are like money in the bank @bigsur51 so there is no hurry to fell them
plus they look hella cool!
that is a great idea of using some of them to build your home, plus its like the trees are still part of the environment
/kind of a circle of life thing
is that your driveway? how far to a paved road?
any plans to gravel that up in the future?
i hope you dont mind all the questions man and im enjoying being able to follow along on your adventure

that’s an old service road for telephone poles when the lumber mill was first built , electricity

it runs through our property but it’s not used anymore and when the mill closed , they decomishoned the lines and removed all the telephone poles and gave them to my gf’s father and he used them for fence posts

there are still a few unused ones laying around , creosote soaked cedar will last forever

but yeah , we are working on a circle drive and we are about halfway done

here’s an Ariel view of the property

I will try and get some photos of the driveway work but I will have to wait until the snow melts

you can see part of the driveway here in the lower left

come out to cali bro! we have all the babes
/btw are you over 6' tall making 6 figures? and willing to spend $$$ on dates
its hard to meet people but if you put yourself out there you never know, plus its cool just to make new friends
/thats my goal for this year!

@bigsur51
now i recall! you detailing your property sorry man if i forget things sometimes
is the old mill still there? how about the foundation and you said they had letricity?
could they turn the line back on?
/it cost cost dough to run electrical to a new site
who owns the property behind your lot? you can see on side is developed but does anyone live on the other side?

hahahah @buzzmobile has all kinds of cool stories and has lived a very colorful life!
maybe if we all gather around the fire and start passing the jug he might tell us some
/i never get tired of hearing your stories brother!
every day i wake up and ask myself is today going to be a good day or a great day?
you never know what adventures are just waiting around thet bend

@Bababooey
thats the thing, sooper cooper is a #2 receiver now and while i like him on the team he is not worth the payout
/especially with two or three other up and coming receivers on the roster
i dont see him taking a pay cut so it looks like the next best thing would be to shift him to another team
/afc and hopefully one with a hot sh!t young qb (its all love coop)
sheen was ainning back in those days!
i liked 2.5 men but once charlie left the show was weak
instead he created his own show anger management! that was funny as hell and pure charlie
im not sure what he is up to now, but i bet he is still living his best life evfen if he is not in the spot light
i think the move in the lumber market might have been based on a threatened tariff placed on canada, but thats on hold and i dont think its going to happen
trump did the same with mex and mex caved with a quickness sending 10k troops to "secure" the border
hooo-wah houses are all over but i think vegas is know for their pay to play houses
like i said i used to date this great chick who worked in a chub and it was a gas
she wasnt a freak but some of her fiends were and they liked weed
/this ws in the greavy days of pot when you could get $300/z easy for the kine
so do you got your bets down for the super bowl? babs
whats the smart money doing
how about the foot game? you know you gotta have the snacks
maybe hawk can save you that piece of left over steak

hahaha I forgot I told you

most of the old mill is still there , but a different company owns it than the company that built the access road for the power lines

the original mill was called Crown Zellerbach

In 1928, the Zellerbach Paper Company merged with the Crown Willamette Paper Company to form publicly-traded Crown Zellerbach Corp.

the mill needed electricity and they got it from a power plant on the Elwah River about 5 miles away from the mill which is located near downtown Port Angeles on the Straight of Juan de Fuca

IMG_4145.jpeg

part of that 5 miles runs right through our property

the power lines and power poles are gone

so is the power plant and dam , gone…

tore down the dam , which was opened in 1913 , in 2010 to allow the salmon to run and spaen

the salmon run up the Elwah before the dams were put in numbered them around 300,00-400,000 fish a year

after the dams were built , the contractor bootlegged some of the work like not putting in a spillway for the fish to go upstream , the population of spawning fish went down to less than 10,000…

yes that lot was sold and developed on the one side

the land on the other side belongs to Swedes family , it’s 20 acres and has the original family farmhouse and barn which goes back around 100 years

the grandfather originally had 120 acres but gradually sold it off and kept 30 acres in the family

side note: Swedes dad was the head accountant at Crown Zellerbach mill for 38 years and Swede would work at the mill in the summers when she was in high school

Indian Trail Trees make a good story. I more than tend to agree with what that feller said. My father in law used to say, "Why tell the truth if it's boring?"

My thumb (El Gordo) and I have made our way across many miles of roads in the USA and Central America. We found the end of the road in Panama on one (mis)adventure.

:ROFLMAO:
OK. The short version.
My dad came to Reno on a business trip and so I came down and met him at his hotel. A few of his work buddies came by with some weed and he said " I don't know if I should be doing this" and handed me the bowl.

We blazed up and then one of them mentioned going to a strip club. I'd never been to one so I was onboard. So we went to one of the nicer ones with his buddies. We were in the first room for a few minutes until we were brought back to the second bigger better room.

Almost as soon as we got back there I saw Usha. A friend of a friend. She saw me, came over, sat on my lap, I gave her a ride back to my place in Truckee, and the rest is history, :p

@Bababooey
The West Coast mountains are better if you ask me. They're steeper and greener, with more dense vegetation. The snow is drier in CO, but I prefer the West Coast overall. The Sierras and Cascades are my home mountains.

oh wow man! sounds like the roots run deep in that area
i assume the dam was only there to supply water for the power plant, so once thats gone its good they took it down, especially if it was harmful to the fish population
@moose eater has some good fish stories to tell and smokes his own salmon
thats a really nice property and i like how it goes back deep into those woods
does anyone still live in the original farm house
what was her job in the mill?

what the hell happened in Panama?
The end of the road met the Darien Gap is what happened. LOL
The story starts in New York City where I spent a few weeks as a guest of the city. I was literally picked up off of the street at the foot of the World Trade Center on the early morning of July 4, 1976 by members of the NYPD. I was having a close encounter with God at the time. I ended up in Bellevue on a locked ward diagnosed as a catatonic schizophrenic experiencing a psychotic break.

I was given some 'privileges' after a couple of weeks which meant I could spend a few hours in the city on my own. I walked to Washington Square where I met a group of folks who called themselves the Yay God Family. They lived in an old apartment building on W. 10th St. that they were renovating bit by bit. They had a push cart from which they sold cookies and juices. They invited me to their place and I eventually moved in with them when I was discharged from Bellevue.

We lived very close to Balducci's Market on 9th St. and that was a source of ingredients for the juice and cookies cart. The owner was very kind to us and he gave us boxes of fruit and vegetables that were too ripe to sell. We cleaned and sorted the produce to make apple, carrot, grape juices and an assortment of cookies. A couple of guys were from Venezuela and their parents had connections with the government. I went with Jesus (yes, that was his name) to the Venezuelan consulate for a meeting to arrange for the collection and shipment of used clothing from NYC to Venezuela for distribution to the poor. The officials listened to our ideas and sent us on our way with the directive that we needed to set up the organization from Venezuela.

Jesus and I decided that we would make our way from NYC to Venezuela by hitching. We crossed from Texas to Mexico with $10 and kept heading south. We made it to the Nicaragua/Costa Rica border and we were denied entrance to Costa Rica. They required round trip tickets and a minimum of $500 to allow a couple of hitchhiking hippies passage into their country. We trudged back to the closest town, San Juan del Sur, on the Nicaraguan side to find a place to spend the night. A fire station was ahead and the bomberos called out to us to talk. We were given a place to stay on second story that was being built atop the original station. One of the bomberos told us about a road that went up through the hills and came down on the Costa Rican side and we could continue our journey. That night was a tropical rain storm without a hint of a breeze. It may as well have been a giant firehose blasting from above us.

In the morning we found the road and it was not too bad at first. Then we came to the red clay mud that was shin deep. Hours of slogging up hills and through jungles had beaten us down and we ended up spending the night in the bush hatching a plan to make our way through Costa Rica. We had a contact in San Jose which is the capital. Our brilliant plan was to toss our passports and when we got to San Jose we would go to our respective embassy to replace them. What could go wrong with that plan?

In the morning we found our way back to the PanAmerican highway leaving the mud far behind us. There was a group of young people gathered on the edge of the highway and they were curious as to what we were doing. We told them about going to Venezuela and they told us they were going into La Cruz for a dance. They invited us to join them on the bus they were awaiting. That was nice and the bus came short;y after. When we got on the bus we asked the driver to let us off on the south side of the town along the PanAmerican highway. He nodded and we sat down. Jesus whispered to me "Look!" and with a tip of his head I looked to see the Costa Rican border officials who had rejected our entry a couple days before. OK. We rode through the town and came to an intersection where the driver stopped and told us this was the place we wanted to go. We got off the bus and the border officials were right behind us and the police station was right across the street.

We spent at least an hour explaining that we had lost our passports and we answered their questions until they had no more questions. Then they loaded us into a Jeep and drove us back to the Nicaraguan border where we had another round of questioning. They had a record of our attempt to enter Costa Rica but with no passports we were a couple of hippies with no good answers. This was on a Friday evening and the Jefe was off until Monday. There was a small dirt floored metal roofed shack nearby that was reserved for our stay. A bucket in the corner and the barest of bare wood bunk bed against one wall. It was pungent to say the least. Monday arrived and so did the Jefe. He acknowledged the record of our attempted departure, but without passports he sent us back to Managua.

Jesus and I separated in Managua. His family in Caracas replaced his passport and sent him a plane ticket home. My grandmother had mailed $200 in cash to a bank in Managua that somehow made it to me. I got another passport and gave some money to a priest who gave us a place to stay while we were replacing passports. Then I headed south again. I was able to cross borders by buying bus tickets to the closest border city on one side and a return ticket from the other side. I crossed into Panama at David and went to Balboa which is the shining city on the Pacific end of the Panama Canal. I was down to a few dollars and some change so I went looking for any kind of work and found none. The east end of the Canal is at Colon and I had hopes of catching a ride on a boat to get to Colombia and then making my way to Venezuela. I had enough money to buy some limes and a bottle of cane syrup. A young boy warned me of the ladrones in the area and I had to laugh at the thought of being robbed of my cane syrup.

There were no boats going anywhere and there was no road to get from Panama to Colombia so I got back on the train and went back to Balboa. I called home and a one way ticket from Panama City, Panama to Miami was sent. I was standing in front of a large glass window that looked out over the runways and I was exhausted and staring blankly when a big voice behind me said, "You getting out of this shithole too?" There was a big old smiling fellow from Texas inviting me to have a drink with him.

There were hundreds of buzzards that lined the roof ridges on almost all of the old buildings and warehouses in Panama City. It was kind of creepy.

you never know what adventures are just waiting around thet bend
That is very true.
the rest is history

I find it hard to believe that there arent some Iowa women in their 20s who are halfway decent looking. Ok yeah, the ones in their 40s and 50s, theyve had kids and let themselves go, but there's gotta be a few younger chicks that havent gone to the dark side totally.

I wonder how big those telephone poles were that ur gf's father could use them for fence posts, unless he chopped them up a lot.
So that's a family farm below ur property, Bigsur? I can see cleared fields, wonder what they grow there. I suppose if u have good relations with them u can trade or buy stuff off them, maybe some food, etc. At the every least it could be a friendly neighbor u can contact in case of dire emergency (knock on wood).

The line opened up KC -1.5, now it's -1 so sharp $ may be on eagles. Im hearing stories that eagles players are suffering from the flu, makes me think it's a psych op to get bettors off the eagles. The safest bet for me would be eagles +3.5, +2.5 or +1.5 would be acceptable as well. I also like Saquon anytime TD and over 90 Rush&rec yds (both bets would be minus $, a parlay together would get u close to even odds).

So u ended up marrying Usha, PW? U married a stripper? That's every man's fantasy, although im sure the reality is very different 99% of the time.

I could see why u prefer the west coast mountains over the rockies, PW. Im in the midwest so ive practically never seen a mountain in my life except on a screen. Do u still snowboard and ski or are the joints too rickety for that?

Haha, ok, i guess my recollection of Buzz's story was off JUST a bit. The first part, about Manhattan, i dont remember at all. What a trip tho, in more ways than one. Now i wonder what happened with drinks with the Texan. Sounded like the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

pretty good size , I asked Swede and she said around 100’ feet tall

and yes they were cut up by her dad and used for fences and various farm projects

majority of the farms around here are actually designated as tree farms

50 to 100 years ago there were more cattle farms mostly dairy cattle

at one time Swedes dad ran a small cow calf operation with about 30 head

several acres were cleared back then , we are talking 50-60 years ago , Swede and I are both in our 70’s , and there was a lot more pasture here and hay fields

so a lot of these trees are replants cause that’s the rules out here for designated tree farms , when trees are harvested the farmer is required to replant trees in order to maintain the tree farm status and get the low tax rates

I hope that all makes sense , it was written on 1/2 cup of coffee and I am still 1/2 asleep

photos are over 50 years ago , Swede stacking hay , her mom driving the tractor , and dad baling

Look at your woman, Bigsur, she's as cute as a button. I bet she grew up plenty strong working on the farm. Maybe Hawk needs to find a farm girl, someone with strong shoulders and sturdy legs.

Being a rancher seems like a lot of work, and dangerous too. Getting kicked by a 1000lb animal doesnt seem like fun. And having to stack up enough fodder for the winter is also grueling work.
I could be a tree farmer tho. Just sit back and watch 'em grow, eh? Im sure there's more to it than that however...

heck yeah farm/ ranch girls are tough as taffy and you are right, mrs.swede looks cute as a button!
/love the haircut bte!
you dont remember @buzzmobile and his time spent with god, he even had news paper articles detailing his adventures
i hear you cant travel by land from n.am to s.am because of this wild part of the road somewhere down in the peninsula, like there are just no solid roads and its not some place you want to hike through
wtf is up with the vultures is there that much carrion in the area to support a murder (that what they call a flock of crows but i bet they have a unique term for buzzards)
we have tons of crows here in san diego but they are more like garbage birds now
/inserts link to jonathan livingston seagull
the sharps are usually right and spend a lot of time breaking things down
philly has the flu? i also hear hurts is kind of banged up too but this is the sb LIV so you know they are going to be bringing their best
im still leaning into fat mahommes and an even fatter adny reid
have you seen some of the articles leading up to the sb? i guess andy reid like to eat food!
im just running with the tay tay
like you said @bigsur51 those creosote soaked poles will last forever, and and @ 100ft tall that would cut down to a lot of nice posts
we build up an embankment against a hillside with old railroad ties i was able to score on teh cheap back in the day
/basically you haul them away and they are yours
that hillside is still going strong to this day

No, I didn't marry the stripper. Just took her home for the night.

I haven't been riding in a few years, but am thinking about it. I broke my ankle a couple years ago after a Maiden concert, so I'm try to make sure it's fully healed before I go again. It sucked not being able to walk, so I've been more careful since then.

And I got my $ on the Eagles.

awww thanks for the kind words Amigo , I will let her know what you said 🙏🏻

your thoughts on a farm girl are spot on

Swede knows what to do with a wheelbarrow and shovel , cook and can food like a champ , and fish!..

she is Swedish and Finnish…
I am Danish and Portuguese

our genealogies match our personalities 😂

this is a 47 lb king salmon that Swede caught and she came in 1st in a contest and won this boat

I had a couple mean roosters and one of them snuck up on Swede and spurred her leg when she wasn’t looking

Swede was holding a stick when this happened , never go in the chickens territory without a stick , and the next thing I knew that rooster was in heaven

I remember a lot of Buzz's stories, i thought he found religion in FL and followed his church around from there, but maybe my memory is effed. I do remember his newspaper article but i think that was about his church in general, i dont think he was in it.

Yeah, a bunch of buzzards around is creepy, theyre all looking at u like expecting u to die cause theyre hungry, maybe if u shoot 1 or 2 theyll stay away. Wonder how they taste... u think vultures are good eating, Hawk? They cant be any worse than gator or coon or possum...

Hurts had a knee injury from the rams and so didnt run much in the nfc championship. Guess who had the over on his rush yds in one of his parlays? Yeah, this idiot. But he's had 2 wks to heal up for the title game so maybe he'll break a long run or 2. Maybe hurts and saquon longest rush overs would be a good idea.

How do u build supports for a hillside, Pops?

I usually have to pay for sex with a stripper, and here u are getting it for free, PW. Was she ugly, at least? Cause those are the only ones that are willing to bang me, even with the $.

Best to start off slow if u get back into riding... a snowboard, was it? Start off on the bunny slopes and work your way up to the double black diamonds. But you know all this already. Youve had a lot of injuries, yeah? Howd you break your ankle? Running from the cops, i assume...

I think Philly has a good chance, AOH. Hurts is a better QB than he was 2 yrs ago when they matched up in the superbowl, and he had 300pass yds, 70 rush yds and 4tds (1 pass, 3 rush) back then. Plus he's got Saquon, who might be having the greatest RB season ever.

Oh my, the Swede grew up to be a real firecracker, Bigsur. You outkicked your coverage on that one.
What IS the personality of a Finn, anyway? I knew a Finnish-american woman, she seemed somewhat unemotional. What's a typical Portuguese personality also? Expressive and ebullient?

You make a good point, Hawk, no one wants to wake up at the crack of dawn to feed a bunch of animals, all eating different food. And not to mention picking up the poo. Has anyone lived on a farm before? Does it always smell faintly of poo or is that just the barn area?

Bellevue is a rather famous hospital, in fact it's become a slang term for any sort of psychiatric hospital. It's still operating today, matter of fact, not sure if it still has a psych ward tho. Had you experimented heavily with psychedelics before being committed there? The 60s were a pretty wild time. I think back in the day they'd treat things like alcoholism in asylums.

Sounds like the Swede knows how to handle an unruly farm animal or two. If they start causing trouble, attacking people, into the stew pot they go. That's a pretty easy way of determining who gets 'et.
You plan on getting any chickens on the homestead this year? If you let them free range some they can eat up all the bugs and maybe mice around...
