building those boxes was damned hard while also being expensive. took me eight days to cut the metal, then wood for frames, paint it all, level a large enough area, assemble the pieces, and finally, to fill them with compost...which was not nearly enough so i have to go buy some more.
i took one day off because of snow., mid April! whooda thunk it?
be well.

All that hard work will come back to you with double joy. Man, I love your setup! Everything is so pretty and fresh-looking. Are those blueberry plants on the left? That tree on the right looks like an apple tree? Have you used this model before now or is this the first time? Where I am, I run into the 100s or 37C for a couple of months during the Summer. Do you think it would be too hot for me to use metal? I really like how everything is so portable and easy to take down. Interesting I got my chair pulled up. Thanks for sharing😎

Those sure grew in! Nice and frosty too!

The outdoor project looks fantastic! That sure is a lot of work and I suspect the payoff will be plenty rewarding! Excellent garden my friend!!

Dang, that's a solid trough!

Am curious has to how thick the base of your plants stems will be. I recently switched from plastic posts to fabric 1gal grow bags and definitely notice a difference

first, thanks for your comment.
no, the blueberries are behind the tree you mistook for apple. those on the left are hydrangea, the tree on the right is a pink dogwood.
second, i couldn't tell you right now about the temps affecting those beds, it is my first using metal. previously i just sawed some logs into sq. beams and filled with dirt.
now that i think about it, the siding will reflect alot of the heat but still absorb some. can't tell you how much yet. there is a massive amount of media in those beds...it won't get much above 100* here in the shadow of the rain forest.
oh...and i don't plan on ever dismantling them.
stay tuned.

Those outdoor beds are awesome
thank you
i did put some effort into building them.
i've put some onions, chives, and beans in and ready for some more starts. temps here are hovering mid 40s to mid 50s and we've had rain and overcast skies for weeks. it'll warm soon but at least the threat of frost is over.
be seein' yas!

i've stripped fan leaves for the most part and just letting them stack till about the 15 May, that'll be 90 days.
i've seen at least 3 distinct phenotype in the tub, i'll get some pics later today.
be well

ok, it's been a month since harvesting.
learned alot in this run.
cannot attribute it to the bed alone, but it helped.
the lights proved their worth. i never have weighed a harvest to see how many grams per watt before, so this was another first, and i was surprised.
397 grams trimmed bud
196 grams sugar leaf for oil
so just a few grams short of a gram per watt.

Don't put nightcrawlers in the indoor beds

They die and stink. Ask me how I know this.

Red wigglers will thrive in there and you only need to add a few. They will multiply like rabbits. Adding worms has many many advantages .

I made a batch of Frank's mix 3 years back . I'm still using the same 4 20gal bags. In a 4x4 tent

that's good advice Mattbho. i've never been successful putting worms indoors. they always disappear/die off. i doubt the worms would like the four inches of perlite in the bottom.
still working on vermi-composting but have been using the worms for fishing. haven't seen a decent nightcrawler in years, but their castings are everywhere. finally got a battery and leads to tickle them out the ground but didn't/couldn't get a response.
thnx for dropping by...and yeah, DFs mix is solid.

Darksider, thank you for the inspirational message. the beds outside need sunshine not luck! lol
the bed inside is working better than i would have imagined.
the medium is on point, the temps at sustainable levels, the LEDs are amazing.
did i mention i don't do runoff...at all, and the only feed is a blast of fish emulsion/molasses at the beginning and some recycled beer once or twice over the 2 months of flower.
next run is already a month in and looks incredible. i think i'm going to double last harvest' numbers. fingers crossed!

be well
