“Up to 20,000 patients in the UK are to be given medical cannabis over a two-year period in an initiative that aims to create the largest body of evidence on the drug in Europe.

The move, to be unveiled on Thursday, is backed by one of the UK’s leading medical bodies and it is hoped it will persuade the NHS to prescribe the drug for a range of conditions.“

No doubt, laws surrounding growing with intent to supply won’t change for a long time. The UK is still stagnant in this regard.

They don't need to do you with intent to supply to give you a big sentence, plant count will determine that.

A couple of the PM's advisors are behind cannabis. Things don't change over night though. This study might be planned to take two years, but the results will be obvious in a few months. A procession of events is needed for many of the government to keep face. Allowing this studious trial, that then reveals they had been ill-informed, is what they need.
