4 months old and reeks of flowers, perfume, and bottled vitamins 😋 chewing on this one provides a smooth come up and a long lasting dreamy, stimulating, up beat and happy, and groovy vibe 😎 adding the Nigerian to the mothers light is a definite improvement as it has added an extra uplifting touch 🙌🏼

Vaporized it is super smooth and a great all day herb. Not too heavy and free from anxiety 😁

This picture is under overhead light.
Top cob sweat 6 hours then fermenter 16 hours.
Middle cob sweat 12 hours fermenter 10 hours.
Bottom cob sweat 22 hours.

Bottom cob slightly darker than the rest.

20250120_102057.jpg

I then realized I didn't get moisture meter readings.
Went and did some work and came back 5 1/2 hours later and got a reading.
Pics taken in bathroom this time with lights coming above mirror,so exposure is changed given a darker looking cob.

The 6 hour and 22 hour both 13.4%
12 hour 15.5.
Cobs didn't feel wet when taken out.
I think these numbers help confirm it.
So now all 3 fermenting at 83f for next 7 days.

Any reason to change fermenting from 7 days to lower or just stick to 7 days?

Looking good my friend they will need a longer fermentation as they are a little dry IMO.
Just open and check weekly for a month at least before sealing and aging for at least 6 months 9 is better.
You should get a nice result from the pics colors look on point for this early in the process.

Ok,will do
I will definitely have them go 9 months or more.
I grow every 3 years and find once I get to 18 months I find the smoke a little meh.
Could be because I smoke my favorite strain first.
So cobbing I am hoping will solve the problem.
Got another one to harvest this weekend that I will make a little wetter.

Very sweet and a bit creamy on the nose. The smell is more subtle but the effect is extremely powerful. Vaporized it is incredibly smooth and expands a lot in the lungs (just like the Nigerian) and it also has this particular heaviness in the face that the Nigerian produces. This cob is less heavy in the face and spreads it more throughout the body. Very warm body effect and intensely uplifting, positive, and gently energizing. Makes me want to dance and groove 🎶

Chewed it has a subtle and pleasing flavor 😋

While I'm waiting on my cobs I turned my attention back to making hash.
I had some air dried bubble to work with
1000025051.jpg
This time instead of rolling them with a hot bottle Frenchy style I decided to try cold cure and vacuum.

Similar to the technique for making piatella. But with air dried and cured rather than fresh frozen.

The smaller bars I wrapped in true plant based cellophane candy wrappers and then vacuumed
1000025055.jpg
For the larger 27g bar I used the corner of a turkey bag
43ac4fd8-fa11-4f33-9c48-27c697c8d494-1_all_45898.jpg
Produced something like this.
1000025060.jpg
Sungrown Organic single source full spec 159-45u bubble air dried pizza tec in a wine cooler
1000025159.jpg
I vacuumed all 3 bars. Then I vacuumed the 2 bars going into the sous vide water again together.
1000025164.jpg
The lowest setting on this Ultra instant pot is 104°. The suggested temp from the instructions I'm following is 31°c or roughly 88 degrees
1000025162.jpg
Since the device is well insulated it holds the heat well.
I turned it off and I get about 2.5 hours before it drops to 85°.
So for now I'll just cycle it on and off a few times
1000025163.jpg
A pint jar to hold them underwater and a trivet underneath.
I'm shooting for 10 hours and then I'll check them for a change.
Basically I'll be looking for any terpenes beginning to leak. Then into my wine cooler to age.

1000025178.jpg
The melty smaller bar being 120-45u and thinner. It started coming together at room temp. I'm just leaving it near the fireplace since we're in the middle of a cold snap.
1000025118.jpg
I'm excited about trying this method.
It's a lot less work than making the templeball.
Supposed to produce a better more terpy end result by being patient and not going over 100°.
Kinda reminded me of making cobs so I'm giving it a try.

Edit: 10 hours at 88° didn't really show much change.

This is the comment that sparked my desire to try this.
First time I decided to err on the safe side.
I'll incrementally increase my time while holding the 88° temperature and see if longer does it.
If not I'll start over and run it again at 104° since that's the lowest my machine goes.
1000025109.jpg

Tang, I know you encouraged me to try this earlier but I don't remember if you had any temp or time recommendations?
Right now I'm trying the lowest temp - longest time approach.
Wondered if you or anyone had any thoughts?

I had a friend stop by today.
That's exciting...I don't get to share too much with people I know. 🤫😃

I pulled out 3 cobs to show him from the little bucket I've been keeping them in and I was shocked to see some more color change on the top cob.

I thought that was a good representation for just grabbing 3.
Dark - medium - green.
1000025252.jpg
1000025253.jpg

I'll have to come back and check that first cob in the picture.
I don't remember it being that dark just 3 weeks ago when I checked it at the 2-month mark.
This is one of the cobs I made from a previous seasons buds kept in Grove bags.
I'm encouraged as to the possibilities that might provide if you don't always have to cob them right at harvest. 🤔

Yeah mon thats what I love in a high beaming from ear to ear and grooving to the music doesn't get any better.
Love the reds and dark blue/black colors.
Cruising on some Colombian x Demon Latcher right now the world looks like a beautiful place ha ha.
Through cob colored glasses ha ha.
Exactly! Nothing compares to a good chew and some tasty jams 😎 That Nigerian x Sinai came on so fast and just kept building up 😆 my eyes were the reddest they have been in a while. Introspective and Cheshire Cat smile 😁 it was giving me some serious Fire on the Mountain vibes 🎸

Senegal 🇸🇳 x Nigeria 🇳🇬

One of my favorite sativa hybrids, it consistently produces high quality, resinous herb that is deceptively potent.

This one is on the drying rack right now and smells of wine and wooden barrels and is nicely pungent. Very fresh and bright in the nose. Looking forward to sampling this beauty 🥰

An update on my hash efforts while I wait for my cobs to mature another month. 😁

I'm finding all sorts of similarities between cobbing and the process most are calling piattella hash. I hope the group finds this interesting.

They're using material to make the piattella that's been micron graded like just 90u or just 73u.
I'm instead using material that's full spec 159-45u or 120-45u because that's what I've been using for making for templeball.
But I'm still seeing benefits so we're playing along to learn.

I like the hands off, minimum interference both systems offer.
A lot less time, effort and handling of the material. Important to an aging one man operation.
Both use a combination of mild pressure, an anaerobic environment and time to bring about marvelous changes.

Both can use varying amounts of low temp heat if desired to increase the speed of the "cure".
The time it takes to get a desired change in the material before putting away to age and store.
And I can use all the tools I'm already using for cobbing. My vacuum sealer, instant pot and wine cooler. 💪

This is what I started with. 159-45u full spec bubble 🫧
1000025060.jpg

My ultra instant pot won't go below 104°
There are new pro models that you can set for long periods at 77° for doing inoculated rice and stuff that you need to be careful with. 🤔
If I was buying - that's the model I would look at.

It didn't take long for me to realize I couldn't turn mine on and off for 3 weeks to keep it around 88° so I opted for 105°
and ran it for 10 hours.
First thing I noticed was there had been enough "action" inside that the vacuum packet was puffed up a little like a pillow. 😃
I like seeing that because I knew at least something was happening.
1000025377.jpg
When I took it out I knew it wasn't complete yet. I could still feel the grainy feel that the unmelted - uncrushed trichromes present
1000025378.jpg
Looks pretty cool though. Just not seeing the leaking oil yet that means I'm there yet.
1000025381.jpg
But dang! I like the looks and smell of that!! 💕 Terp city!
I love the grain/ intact heads feel to it.
The ease of handling preparing it to smoke. Vaped some in my dynavap and I'm very happy.
I decided to vacuum bag this one and run it another 10 hrs at 105° and then I'll check it again.
Very encouraging though.
1000025372.jpg

This one was a little patty of last seasons Mimosa. Always kept in a Grove bag but never cobbed.
I decided to wash it. I'm finding around 18 months is where my flower quality will start to fall off.

Cobbing and hash for me are attempts besides variety to store excess when good seasons provide it.
Smaller amounts at the same heat and times means this one "cured" more.
You can see a little oil leaked.
1000025375.jpg

Its good. I like it.
A little muted/tired on the terps.
For that reason I decided no more instant pot heat on this one.
I put it in this jar on the fireplace mantle where it will cycle between 65 and 75° for 3 weeks.
Supposedly the gentler heat and longer time will still support a change but with added benefits of smell, taste, texture and maybe even effect.
1000025387.jpg

I have another small package of 120-45u that started coming together at room temp when vacuum sealed in here for the 3-week treatment.

I'm happy with the results and having the material to experiment with.
I've decided to make up a package and vacuum it but put it right into the wine cooler with no heat to jumpstart the cure. 6 - months to a year they say. ⏳🧐
1000025388.jpg

That's my update.
3 different experiments.
1: A heat jump start at 105° for 24hrs
2: A package of 120-45u in the mantle for 21 days at 65-75°
3: One with no heat at all just vacuum sealed and into the wine cooler for 6-12 months cycling between 37 - 50°.

Interesting to see the intersection where my flower in Grove bags, Cobbing and my hash making efforts are all coming together.

It's slowly turning into a system where I will pluck a few A buds from each plant for flower.
Hang dry the rest of the plant for around 4 days and then cob some.

The 4 day hang also makes the resin easier to handle they say compared to fresh frozen when making hash and has the added benefits of increased yields and better terps than fully air cured.
So after cobbing all the rest gets bucked down and washed and I'm all done!

If this all works out this would really simplify and streamline the harvest/post harvest methods I'm using that currently drag on for 4 months. 🫤

Nice report. Thanks for sharing your experiments. Very interesting. I'm thinking of doing something similar on the next harvest. I need to keep more flower uncobbed for others and want to do some hash since I will be growing hash plants. Lebanese, Pakistani, Nepalese. Mixed chemotypes. I need to figure out an easy protocol for hash making. The last two years I did all cobs as it is just so easy and convenient.

So easy to cob. 😁
I added up the 15 cobs I made and I'm nearing a pound of weight. 😳 😍
