Mac McClung, from Gate City here, won the Slam Dunk competition on All Star weekend. so cool to see locals score on bigger stages. been several kids from "podunk" rural schools in mountains here make it in the NFL. the morons writing about it on the 'net said that "Gate City" is a nickname for Bristol because it's the "Gateway" into the mountains. :biglaugh: that would come as a real shock to folks actually from the town. that's like saying that Bristol is a suburb of Knoxville because I-81 passes through both towns, lol...

I saw the Gate city jerseys in the stands, thought it was a cool name for a team. He's on a 10 day contact with the 76ers but hasnt played any minutes this year. He's an awesome dunker and had some nice mixtapes in high school along with zion but at 6'2" he'll need to develop his passing and 3pt shooting in order to get regular minutes in the league. But he did gain a lot of social media followers and can parlay that into some $$ too.

Unfortunately he's probably not ever going to be in a regular NBA rotation, not at this stage of his career. Even after his all star performance he's not dressing for sixers game much less playing. I think his only NBA minutes came with the lakers last year, in literally the last game of the season when they were out of the playoffs and not playing starters.
Being an awesome dunker does not equate to being an NBA caliber player. He supposedly turned down a 7 figure contract from the CBA (chinese league) so he still has opportunities to make millions playing overseas plus any social media and endorsement $ he can make, so dont feel too bad for him. And like Hippy said if he improves a lot while playing in foreign leagues maybe he can make it back to the NBA. PJ tucker played in europe and israel for 5 years before hooking on with nba teams as a small ball power forward in his late 20s. McClung is 24 so he's still got time to expand his game.
