Growreport 4x4 - AUTOPOT & Biotabs ORGANIC

Hey! I did a grow report but didn't finish it, and it changed so much that I thought I'd just write a new grow diary.

First of all, if you have any questions, you are more than welcome to ask! We got so many problems. I used a new product and messed up so much that I had to switch out a few plants.

Now it's fine, but I want to say it: Keep it simple is really a good tip that we all should consider!

Let's begin with the details of the grow! I do two grows, but I thought I'd just post one. If you are interested in the second one, I will do one for that as well.
I got Blue Zushi and Orange Bud 2.0 from Dutch Passion, my original Runtz Cut and my breeder's cut of Savage Hulk F3 are there too.
Square One Genetics: Grape Rock Candy x Banana Butter Cups F2 as well. In the smaller tent, I'm using coco for the second time.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My main grow (4x4) is Biotabs with Autopot, and now let's go with the setup and genetics I use for that run!

LED: Sanlight - 2x 4-120 (511W, 2 lights) Here you can see the PAR-MAP if you scroll down: SANlight EVO series: PAR test, PPFD plots and more

Setup:
Size: 120x120 cm (4x4 ft)
System: 6x15L (3.9 gallons) Autopot
Medium/Substrate: Biobizz Light-Mix with 50% Perlite for aeration. I use a handful of dolomitic lime for Cal-Mag once (mixed in the soil).

Fertilizer: Biotabs with a few additives.

Training Methods: Topping, LST, Lollipopping, Supercropping, and 2 scrogg-nettings

Genetics: 2x La Bomba - Compound Genetics (Wedding Cake x Jet Fuel Gelato)
3x Strawberry AKeil
1x Dante's Inferno #8 Mile Dave's Cut (Original Clone)

My water has 0.7 EC from the tap and has a PH of 7.8. I am not adjusting anything.

3x Strawberry AKeils are the youngest, La Bomba and Dante's Inferno are 7 days ahead.

Pictures from day 4 - 11:

PXL_20240912_225704243.jpg

Pictures from yesterday Day 24 - 31 (never got such a slow veg growth, but thats because i had these problems early):

PXL_20241003_210829407.jpg

Front left = Dante's Inferno
Last row and Middle left = Strawberry AKeil
Last row right = Strawberry AKeil
Front and middle right side = La Bomba.

U can see i did the training on Dante's and La Bomba, tomorrow i do it on the Strawberry AKeil's

Last row - the left plant: You can see the problems I've gotten because I used a new product or had chlorine in my water.

Tomorrow I will train La Bomba (both) and Strawberry AKeil. I will LST them and put the first scrog netting on them!

Next Friday I will switch into 12/12 - that was my thought.

Update time!

I really hope that someone enjoys this grow report :D

They have their first day of flower!

PXL_20241011_174654302.jpg

I thought I wouldn't wait until they grow into the netting, so I thought I would slightly work them into the netting like I normally do!
PXL_20241011_180713516.jpg

I'm not sure if the switch was a bit too early, and I should have let them 3-5 more days of vegetative growth. But I think we are fine, the netting is for a 5x5, it works perfectly for a 4x4 in my opinion!

I will update tomorrow and show a picture, when the lights turn on, it does seem like it destroyed everything every time you work them into the netting.

If someone has any questions, then please, don't hesitate to ask :)

The LST we did in the beginning, really does show some fruits. We have so many small shoots in the middle of the plant that are already at the same height like the main shoots.

I did remove like 5-10 leaves per plant at the top, 10 in the middle and removed like 10% of the lower part of the plant (Lollipopping and Defolation).

I normally don't like to remove much, just in flowering day 21.

I do think that if the light is 8 inches away from a leaf, and you remove it, the next leaf is like 10 inches away, and the photosynthesis is not that efficient anymore.

But I know a lot of guys do it like that, and that's completely fine.. Everyone has his/her style and that's a great thing!

But no removal like crazy here in this report :D,

If someone wants to follow the other grow as well, let me know.

It's fairly early on, I had to start over because the silica rock product messed me up and killed so many plants.

Pauline, the Community Manager from Dutch Passion, has got me covered and gave me two packs.

1x Blue Zushi and 1x Orange Bud 2.0 - so i grow these out! :)

In the propagation dome there is rooting:
Baby Jokerz
La Bomba (2x)
Dante's Inferno

The sad part is that I have to throw so many plants away. It's just a shame; I don't like that!

Apple Fritter x Purple Punch from CSI Humboldt
Blue Zushi
Orange Bud 2.0
Korn Flakez - LIT Farms

PXL_20241011_184402260.jpg

I did Savage Hulk F3!
Bruce Banner #5 x Zkittlez x Do-Si-Do F2

For an F3 generation, I find them fairly homogeneous. The left one is a bit bigger, but hey, we have a lot of generations to go! Fruity/Strawberry gas is all over the place! Stem rub just shows me fruity notes, but no gas yet.
PXL_20241011_184423811.jpg

I thought about:
2x Savage Hulk F3
1x Blue Zushi
1x Orange Bud 2.0
1x GRC X BBC F2 (Square One)
1x Runtz (Clone)

What do u guys think? I really wanna see 2 Blue Zushi honestly.

Your profile pic makes it even better because it looks like that little eyeball robot that comes out in the spaceship 👁️

Flowering day 3
PXL_20241013_152116164.jpg

after a bit of work:
PXL_20241013_153850974.jpg

I think I should let them veg for another week.
If I train them more in the middle, I'll have a lot of buds that aren't at the same height. The edges will be 5 cm ahead.

I'm thinking I'll use a second trellis on day 12-16. They're not stretching 5 cm a day, so I think tomorrow is the first day they've had enough hormones to switch to flowering.

Hi there!

You can fasten the power cable with double-sided adhesive tape (see my garden 2019-2023 Q6W)
You can also hang the support cable at the top, it looks unprofessional!
Make sure that the distance between the flowers and the LED is not less than 35-40cm because you can burn the flowers.

Otherwise it looks good.
Good luck!

Hey Buddy!
Thanks but i cannot.. Because the cable is not long enough!
If i do that, one of the light's will go in a direction.. U know what i mean?

I have a distance of 30cm, like its in the manuel.

Btw - here is my own Strain.
Its Bruce Banner #5 x Zkittlez x Do-Si-Do F2 - we are in the F3 Generation and i do right now a grow with 2 ladys to see if they are material for the F4-Generation!

The Plants were for 6 weeks in 500ml cups to stress the shit out of them, they are completly fine and didnt care.

The power cords don't fit but it's not bad.

Do you use CO2?
I subscribe to the post to see if the plants last until harvest at a distance of 30 cm :joint:

Sanlight is recommending a distance of 30cm.
No, i dont use any Co2 supplement.

I do it every grow buddy, here is a old one - 30cm :)

In case u wont believe me:
If u scroll to the 4x4 segment (120x120) u can see it - the recommended distance.

I tried it in the ground and they burned at the tips under 35cm at a power of 490W.

They look good :canabis:
Oh u dont know how to calculate the power % u need?
Lets say u want 400 PPFD jes?

My 2x Sanlight 4-120 have 483 ppfd.. lets say 490 okay?
490 PPF

we want 400 PPFD

So we go:
(PPFD we want x 100 : our 890 PPF we have)

400 x 100 = 40.000
40.000 : 890 = 44,9 % - so we go with 45%

How much hanging distance? For me its 30cm

U can see on the website i linked how much they recommend u to hang your sanlight up.
And there is even a node on my 2x 4-120 that says:
  • Average PPFDe…………………883µmol/m²/s - so we round it up to 900.

Its working man. Thats the reason u dont need any light-meter to measure PPFD. Because this is so easy with the Sanlight's.
I see, u have the Q6W - give them guys a message and ask them, they are lovely they will help u out - and tell you what your PPFDe summ is. :)

looking very good! it's going to be great grow. what is your opinion of autopots? i've been thinking of trying them. once i tried blumats, but i didn't like the result. blumats didn't water the soil completely around.

I use Q6W and Evo 5 120. With evo 5 I can keep a small distance of 30-35cm, but with Q6W there is a difference between panels of 35+cm.
I only grow in soil and my question is: Are the plants as resistant? autopot, hydro and soil?

I don't use lightmeters.
I follow everything posted by sanlight
Did you grow in soil at 30cm?

Hey!

Autopots? They're the best tool I've ever used to step up my game.

I thought it was idiotic because automation takes the skill out, but that's bullshit. You can never be as good as an automatic system!

Why? Because if you use a 50% perlite and 50% light-mix substrate, you have enough oxygen in it.
And the best growth rate u can imagine. Its just perfect, if u use the right fertilizer.

You NEED to buy the airbase with that! It's €8 and it negates the need for any clay pebbles on the bottom of your substrate. You just buy it once and then you have it! Your plant is above the water level with the airbase, because otherwise it would sit permanently in the water. Or u use the clay pebbles, but that would be stupid - i dont fuck with PHing them 2 weeks etc.

I didn't want to make an ad out of this, but I love this product.

If you use Biotabs, or really any fertilizer that you apply to the soil once, then you just have to add water to your tank! That's all you have to do!

Every plant drinks on its own! So you won't force anything, and I love this "type" of growing. You give enough food, enough water, and the plant takes what it wants on its own. Beautiful, IMO.

The plant will grow better, faster because the microbes are happier. You have a constant water level and enough oxygen in your root zone, thanks to the 50% perlite.

So Autopot + Biotabs is really the best and easiest way I can imagine.

Buuuuuuut... I want to grow more in coco after this grow :/

I would highly suggest using a compostea! I use Biotabs PK Compostea, you see the difference, it's amazing (I use it in the third week of flower).

Sadly, I just did my first coco grow! And I fell in love with it... And Autopots = watering from the bottom, so I'm scared to use them with Autopots. But if you go strictly organic, then buy it... I can't recommend it more!

I'll try my next seed run with Hesi and Autopots.

Now i really feel like i sell something to you :D
But its just amazing.

Btw - i had the system off for 4 days.. in 24 hours 6 plants drunk over 20L of water. Amazing.

Thanks for the answers.
I have only heard good things about biotabs, as well as about the autopot.

When I wanted to buy an autopot in 2016 (with a pump), there weren't many options and I've been dreaming of automating everything for a long time because I'm leaving with the service for 3-5-7 days and there's no one to take care of them.
I am currently using gardena micro drip (good for gel-type nutrients or those that do not have impurities in the composition. I had a grow with watering at the bottom (in a plate) and the result was very good.

Can you recommend (for the next grow) an airpot model with an automatic pump? It can be with a plug connection or preferably RJ45 :D Or what do you think is appropriate!

I have a 120l tank, so the amount of water would not be a big problem.

Bluelab pro impressed me how it does the mixture, only that we are talking about a price of €3,000+ a system with 7 pumps.

I use the lights connected to the growcontrol, in case of high temperatures it reduces the power by itself until it stops the whole system except the water pump which is connected individually.

Update!

It's flowering day 10! And the 70% humidity gave me a headache, so I did a hard lollipop and some defoliation.

I had a picture in my head of how it should look when the stretch is over, so I lollipopped a bit "harder" I would say.

It's day 10 like I mentioned, and I removed a lot of leaf material. What's your opinion? Did I go too hard on these girls? I mean they will now produce more leaves, so I stole a bit of energy from them, but I was just scared of powdery mildew or some kind of mold.

At the top, I removed about 20 leaves per plant in total (selective defoliation). I think that's fine, the plants are (once again) on day 10 so they will stretch until 21 (around that day)...

I really wanted to just remove about 1/3 of the plant's bottom but I lost myself in just plucking :D

Btw - i did installed my second trellis.. The La Bomba in the front is just faster then everyone else so that is the explaining why its not everything in the trellis yet.

What do you think?

U mean the fabric pots from Autopot?
Never used them - but why not? If u wanna go with them then go i have no experience with them so i cannot say anything about them.

The normal 3.9 Gallon Autopots are more then enough - with 5 weeks of veg i could grow 2m plants.
Maybe 4x 5 Gallon Pots in a 4x4? But if u give them enough time to grow roots i dont know if they dont explode in the tent :D

I would just go with autopot - u use gravity and no pump. Its non electrical.

Or do u wanna grow in coco?

I will try out Hesi and Coco, Hesi is mineral but has organic Nitrogen - so in my seedrun i will test it and see if its viable.
