Cultivar naming

When naming a cross, does the female come
first? For example Burmese female x Afghani
male. Would the proper way to name that cross
be Burmese x Afghani? Or does it matter?

:) Female always comes first if you’re doing it right!

I use femal x male when i name crosses. Imo it is a unwritten rule and also done this way when breeding in general.

Botanically speaking, the seed parent is listed first, the pollen parent second. This is how every other plant is dealt with.

The name is different from the parentage.

You could name that "Burghani High" and the parentage would be Burmese x Afghani. At the end of the day, it's the parentage that's important.

What I would like to know is how do you untangle the knot of two breeders using that same name with different parentage? In orchid land, whoever registers a name and parentage with the Royal Horticulture Society first wins the name race.

Some day something like that needs to happen with cannabis.

Hey Thank you for that response 44:86N. I am
mixing up Parentage VS Naming. I am largely
interested in stating the Parentage correctly. The
naming part is tricky.
