Cryogenic pour over extraction

A quick and easy way to extract clean THC-A rich fractions using a pour over method to quickly flush the cannabinoids from the matrix without pulling excess pigments and fats.

Using dry ice to cool the working solvent and the matrix will allow for multiple quick passes of solvent without heat soak overcoming the dry ice cooling.

Bring your volume of solvent and your extraction materials to your freezer temperature. Gather you material to extract once frozen and carefully place small chunks of dry ice into a mesh bag with the materials to be extracted.

To bring your solvent down to cryogenic temperatures place your solvent in a jar several volumes larger than the amount of solvent used. Carefully place small chunks of dry ice in the cold solvent, the dry ice will give off Co2 gas and will cause the solvent to foam. The Co2 gas can accumulate so you must actively vent the area where you are cooling the solvent. Keep adding small chunks of dry ice until you reach sub -50f, allow the dry ice to gas off and pour over your mesh bag full of material.

Multiple passes are needed for a complete extraction. You can bring a fresh batch of solvent to temperature, or bring your first volume of solvent back to temperature, and pour it over the material again for at least 3 passes.

Once the extraction is complete you can evaporate the solvent or louche your solvent (if ethanol is used) to separate your cannabinoids from the solvent.
