Bud worm

I am a first time grower and found chokecherry gall midge in my bud when trimming. I picked out what I could find but I just know I dint get it all. Will these pest continue to thrive when bud is in the jars? Will they harm my canna butter when I make it? I don’t think I can get a picture anymore but I’m sure it’s the chokecherry gall midge.

Eventually the oxygen in the jars will be used up by the curing process and the worms will die. But until then they will chomp away and even after that there will be dead worms in your buds. If you don't think you got them all check again.

Cannabutter is a good idea. Sure there will be worm poop in your cannabutter but limited harm I'd say, the bacteria will die when you cook it up.

Thanks for that. When I clip to small sizes for the decarboxilating I’ll probably find any others I didn’t the first time.

Spray the surrounding fruit-bearing trees in the area with dormant oil. I'm not sure about the timing but I'm sure someone in the area would know. The pink maggots come from tiny flies that lay their eggs inside the fruit. Interestingly they are only in one area and attack only chokecherry and Saskatoon berry plants. Cannabis too?😎

I went through a couple of my jars and found a worm in each one. Here are some pictures I took.

I understand that putting my jars in the freezer would kill the worm but will how will it affect the bud?

The cold slows everything down.

So a bud harvested in 2021 will be "old bud" by the time the 2022 harvest rolls around - but if it's frozen it will be good through 2023 & maybe more.

Maybe in 100 years people will be making edibles with the bugs, and it will become desirable, like the worm in the techila bottle.
