That looks like pest damage or some kind of mechanical damage. Take a magnifier and get a close-up look at the bottom of the leaves and see if you can see eggs.

thanks for the reply creeper, i looked at the under side it looked pitted, i have been preventive spraying for about a month with neem n soap but tomorrow i'll get out the bigeye n have a closer look, thanks again

Bingo that's the bug doing all the damage, iv'e delt with a lot of different kinda bug but never these, they say i shouldn't worry,, bullshit, i 'm being swarmed with them, i think it's got a lot to do with the drought, we been going through, never seen the river i live on, this low in the 70+ year i've been on it, i'm thinking of upping my spray to 1 1/2 ounce of neem oil to 1 1/2 ounce of castile soap to a gallon of water, what do ya think?, any ideas

Only if you are getting new hits from the insects and new damage. If the damage stays only on the few leaves already attacked then you may be ok. If you see new damage daily then up the spray.

I can't stand leaf hoppers. I used to think they weren't that bad, until I got a lot of those one time. For me it most likely flew in from outdoors. Unopposed they multiplied.
Looks like they're standing on their head when they feed.

I had a hard time getting rid of them for a while.

Yeah they were everywhere one year I was growing outside. A lot of people were complaining about them and seeing them in higher numbers than they expected. I was told to just spray with soap and water and that they would go away by mid summer which they did. I think they suck sap for a few months and then go to lay eggs in other plants for next year. Good luck thats one of the worse cases Ive seen but as Creeper say its most likely they are fine, just a bit beat up by it. The leaf hoppers do spread disease though IDK what

Thanks for all the replies seen more damage. n found as many as 7 on one plant, will do a light spray after sun down, just got done spraying around the cage, (with heavy neem n soap) including a 1/8 of a acre of uncut weeds n grass my neighbor owns (cut it after spraying) i sure hope that helps, o well time will tell

Now that you know what they are. Kill every one of those bastards you see with your hands. Don't let any getaway. Everyone you hand kill will prevent a lot of new ones. Thanks for the post friend very interesting.

Thanks fellow growers, after a few sprayings n getting rid of all the unwanted plant life around my cage! n doing the catchun n kill thing, i think i;m getting them under control,, thank again

Well, we had rain, i was hoping the rain would move the little buggers along, nope, still gotum, been spraying, i can see um but having a hard time killing them, i can't just smash um with out damaging the plant, my new plan is to hit um ( one at a time) with insecticide soap, then rinse the spot off right away, what do ya think?

They re very hard to catch. They tend to dodge my first try and then bounce and are GONE if I try again.

Yeah snipe em with a spray bottle and then maybe have another sprayer with plain water to rinse it off with.
Soap will dry them out and kill them or slow them down long enough for you to manually destroy them
