Hey man I hope I didn't misspeak earlier. I thought I read that you were having better germ rates with the Breeders Retail Thunk lots than the antiquated freebies lot that have been with SeedBay & SeedBoutique so long. Considering you're 5/20 from the Breeders Retail stocks and Ur Humble Nr8tor is 1/4 on the "freebies" I'm not sure what to think anymore. 5/20 = 1/4 if my elementary math still holds up.

Just sort of talking out loud because I think this is one of the lines that likely holds some actual gold. Some incredible heirloom type specimens. Not many have grown this line it seems compared to the quicker flowering modern hybrids, but seems like anytime there is a grow or smoke report on Thunk it's very well received and highly favored. It's championed. That said, I'm fairly broke and already making concessions on which packs to scoop on this second chance last sale because I was actually broke during the first Breeders Retail last chance sale and was kicking myself for being in that position feeling like I was missing out.

Feels like old times stretching the weekly food budget to order a couple packs of seeds! I mean that in a good way. Genetics are a passion of mine. One of the truest ones for me up there with surfing.

So I'd love to ask fellow connoisseurs your opinion. I already have a pack or two of Thunk from the Bay/Boo freebies, but so far 0 for 7. My budget for this order is fixed and I was planning to scoop a pack of Thunk from Breeders Retail hoping for some that would sprout, but seeing as the germ rates are about the same, albeit a small sample size, do you think I should scoop a pack or something else, something I don't have instead of the Thunk, considering I already have a handful of the Thunk "freebies" left?

I'm mostly interested in the haze #5 x haze/skunk and the original haze x skunk. Been going back and forth on if I should scoop the Thunk or use what I already have and scoop an extra pack of the haze #5 cross instead, to have a larger population to select from. Apologies for the abstract, I don't really have anyone to talk to about this sort of stuff. Much love

Thunk is a polyhybrid. From 5 plants I had 5 different looking ones. 3 girls and 2 boys. 1 boy was very tall and with very long internodes. Now I understand that male was Thai leaning. The other male I had was short, branchy and not vigorous compared with his brother.
I had 3 girls:a fasciated non vigorous girl which I used for seed run, this one was columnar girl same as a sister of hers. And the other pheno was Ohz looking. It was very similar to one of the girls from Seedsman Hz pack. Tall, productive and hay buds.
Now I am running F2 from the fasciated girl
I used 17 seeds in order to get 5 plants up. More seed showed roots and even cotyledons but didnt advance from that stage. So I got 5 out of 17 seeds in order to get 5 viable plants which is around 30% and they took some work in veg. This one and Ohz x Sk are historical strains. It is amazing they still sprout and you still have the chance to get them. Thunk and Ohz x Sk are a window/time capsule to times gone long time ago with different breeding, different strains and different thinking of today
From Ancestral Skunk I had 2 seeds turned into plants out of 105 seeds, I am growing it outdoors now, will be ready in a few weeks.

Breeders Retail Do you know when this Thunk release of yours was done? In the 90s or early 2000's?

Haze 5 x Hz/Sk
I sprouted 5 seeds and obtained 100% germination in 36 hs, just paper towel method. Same results for Mex/Hz and Ohz x Sk. 100% germination in less than 48 hours
I had 5 girls, all of them had same structure and same high
It is a hashplant with amazing sativa organoleptics. This one must make excellent hash. I compare it with Doors from MSN. Hashplant with sativa taste. Similar looking plants too
All of my Haze 5's were ready at about the same time, a week difference between them. Same like Doors
The structure of all of them was like this

No mold, no PM, no intersex for Haze 5 x Hz/Sk in my environment, same thing goes for Thunk

By the time Ohz is just showing sex, she will be ready. No wonder growers adopted her worldwide

1 of 4 for me from boo freebies. Plenty healthy if you can get them to come up. I have two peat pellets still on the mat hoping. Had to throw one away with mold forming

I just emailed with another order request. Hopefully 7March still works for me here in Western USA. Just realized it’s technically after midnight in UK .

Was that 5 out of 20 then? I grabbed Tycho's Super Germ solution to try to germ old seeds but didn't think I would need it for when I get around to Thunk, maybe I need to rethink that? I have read of less than ideal rates with Seedbay stock but thought BR's was fine... ?

I purchased TychoMonolyth super germ solution as well. And I have 200 Ancestral Skunk that I will be tinkering with. As well as some of the Hawaiian stuff from Breeders Retail.
I will be doing a little stubborn seed segment in my thread in the upcoming months.

I once tried cracking seeds to help. Every time I tried I damaged it by cracking way too much. Then I thought about vice grips. I put the seed in the jaws, and simply turn the adjustment screw until I heard the crack. That only worked with dry seeds, not seeds that were soaking for a while.

Not a bad idea, I had a couple issues with some seeds that may be thicker. I think I'll try to either soak in 1.5% peroxide solution to soften the shell or scuff them with sand paper in a matchbox or tupperware container. Cracking seems like it would work too but would you do this before or after soaking them or would you not soak at all?

Definitely before the soak. The soak after the crack would soften the shell to make it easy for the germ to exit. If you're going to use H2O2 at this point, make sure it's heavily diluted. Like one cap to one cup of water. You're more interested in supplying extra oxygen instead of disinfecting.
