The sunspot cycle manifests in measurable physiological fluctuations in plants and people, such as in their photic biological timekeeping mechanisms. There is some evidence that the sunspot cycle correlates with fluctuations in plant growth characteristics and crop performance. Since the sun sets the rhythm of life, any fluctuation in it seems likely to produce a number of downstream effects.

There was a period in the 20th century when agronomists were extremely into deciphering crop cycles to facilitate long-range yield forecasting and there were some who believed the sunspot cycle was the key to unlocking it. It seems more likely it is one factor in a system of several variables that acts to shape regional weather patterns in the summer months, especially rainfall.
