Been too long, again. Going to dump some pics from week 2-3, then get some more today. I've watered twice so far since flipping. Eight days apart. Can see the dates in the pic names. Also in my little seedmaking set-up can see a cleft graft of the (gg4 x chem d) onto my nl5 male, and the top of that weird giesel fallen soldier onto a Steve Murphy's Purest Indica. It only looks unhappy bc I (finally) identified its rootstock as male and stripped all of its foliage at once. Expect it to recover fine. Some of the newest shots are when I was in the middle of thinning. Will probably thin again in 2 weeks. 20240326 is a pic of the Super Skunk 1, and 20240326_2 is the diesel cross. The best yielder so far is looking like Super Skunk 2--which was the smallest plant put in. This may be bc it is the best size for the light/light position, idk. Will be interesting to see how it shakes out and whether the bigger plants more than make up for it. Will get some nice shots today. Want to water again and then only check on the thermometer for a week to simulate going on vacation with this system. No extra automation just big pots and a mulch layer.

Wanted to also recap to this point--as well as go over stuff I left out: 1) if you defoliate fan leaves the plant will turn branches into tops/sync up internodes. 2) If you're increasing the container size at the right time with even okay soil you will hardly--if ever need to feed. I fed these once before up-potting to 1 and 2 gal containers, and then once while in 6 gal with quarter strength GH veg powder. I watered the plants only 6 times after they were transplanted to 6 gal containers. 3) I put water in a concrete mixing tray to bottom water the 6 gal, then I would (often) use an electric sprayer to hand water the top. 4) you can run a straight water reservoir with flood table and potting soil, for months with no PHing or anything, just feed from the top (and I would put perlite on the bottom of the pots bc my system is messy, I'm just lazy lol). 5) whenever I am handwatering to even out various containers in the flood tables I do something similar to "3)", which I think of as simulating a PPK watering. You use a bottom container with water covering any holes on the pot, then spray the top for several seconds to flood it this allows gas exchange and for water to really penetrate the hydrophobic, dried out peat/coir, instead of finding the easiest path and running through the whole pot. Figuring out when to water and how much is so important.

Recapping, these plants were started in paper towels and put in 3.5 in square pots beginning of December, then 1-2 gal containers, 6 gal, and finally 4 of 6 made it to 27 gal totes around a 1kW hortilux. The light setup costs around $200 these days if you're thrifty (and maybe okay with mag ballasts). The flower room I built was with 10x 2"x4"s ($40ish), a 4"x4" I had laying around, and most of a 50ft roll of panda film. Two tower fans for under $50 total, and a second 6in fan (had one already) exhausting the room was the only other biggish expense at $85 (with a speed controller) and $40 for ducting. Had the carbon filter already though. Yesterday was 3 weeks of flower and they haven't needed a third watering yet. Bud pics to come. Appreciate so many people looking at this thread. Will be sure to stick with it until final weights and what not. As always, any questions feel free to ask.

Here are some pics from today and yesterday. Can see the really good resin production on the diesel cross in the pics with the HPS light on. I have two thermometers in there now, one that resets right after lights on, and another at the end. Can see the temps in there yesterday for lights on. I also stopped oscillating the fans bc some leaves were getting too beat up for me, so the osc fans just run behind the plants during all of lights on now, and occasionally when they're off. Watered 2 gal into each tote today. Want to see if they'll be good for a week without a watering, getting into the middle of flower.

Some pics from today. Most of the bud shots are the diesel cross. 20240404_173627 is of Super Skunk #2. 20240404_174044 is of Super Skunk #2 and #1, 20240404_173749 is of Super Skunk #2, #1, and #5, and 20240404_174009 is of Super Skunk #1 and #5. Tons of rain so humidity has been up, but everything seems fine with tons of air movement still. Have the 6in fan venting the room on 24/7 since last watering.

Some pics of the Diesel cross clone I have in making seed with my NL5 male. Also a shot of my Northern Lights keeper from the seed tent, and a successful graft on my Oreoz keeper I discovered/remembered (lol) today while watering. Have about 4 guesses what it is, best one being my second fav Oreoz I gave away--just in case it ended up being better. Seed tent is about 5 days behind the flower tent. They're around a 600W HPS in a 4x4 tent, hung vertical barebulb (was at 75% until this week).

Here are a bunch of pics from yesterday. The week of faux-vacation went totally fine, watered them with 2 gal of collected rainwater this time. Seeing my first orange hairs, hoping its not pollen from upstairs, tried to be careful, but don't really care even if so. Will just extract those nugs. Also a pic of the Sensi Star I'm keeping as a mom for now (about to search through some more Sensi Star though too), and the clone of the fasciated (2 split) branch of Super Skunk 3. It's in the seed tent with the NL5 male I'm using. It's fully pollinated the room so about to strip the male parts off and leave the GG4 x Chem scion to get all the energy. edit* Oh, main reason for an update--besides the watering/neglect experiment: I figured out the diesel cross I've been going is Big Bang x (Sour) Diesel. Pretty excited, if I had remembered Big Bang was a strain, and its genetics I would have figured this out months ago. Stumbled on its existence. Can't find anything on the cross though. It seems to have Diesel's structure, with Big Bang's scent.

Took three days to thin these again with all the growth and the crazy trellis, but given that I still haven't even watered again I still feel like it has been barely any work. Might go to 1600W if I can get another cooltube and pin to the walls in the future, just for more access (and yield). Got a lot of nice canopy pics though. The HPS canopy shot is today, after everything was thinned, other shots were taken during/after I finished an area yesterday (or the day before). Should only have to do one more light thinning before harvest at least. Plan on watering tomorrow or the day after again. Today is day 36, so most of these are day 35 flower shots. The seeded Big Bang Diesel clone is basically just these two colas. One pic of it has resin from me thinning smeared on the lens, felt like it gave a retro look to the picture. edit* the pic "Super Skunk 1" is actually the Big Bang Diesel.

Quick update, about to water today again. Been since last Monday, the number 5 might begin getting water sooner by a couple days just bc I can tell it's drinking faster. Everything has just been skating along honestly. I just let the plants do their thing at this point. Got some pretty good shots of the buds, felt like I had to play with my camera settings some to get it closer to what I'm actually seeing. Last pic is of a tiny male sac I let grow back on my GG4 x Chem D graft. The NL5 male didn't res out like that before so might be some shared info from the scion going down? Very neat. Have some other mutant plant pics I need to put up at some point. Found a GG4 that fasciated three branches, and a couple albany sour x sensi star that have crazy leaves. Harvest will probably be around May 15th - 20th? Big Bang Diesel has lighter hairs than the Super Skunk, but they're also changing over slower for sure. Will check trichs in week 8 for everyone.

edit* felt like there wasn't enough pics of the grape smelling Super Skunk 2, it's shaping up to be my favorite of the three I think, so included a bunch.

Here are some pics from yesterday (day 48), watered again at the same time. Played with the use of filters to better capture the pics this time. If the HPS isn't on I'm not going for aesthetics just realism. Personally dislike when I see instagram pics where people have cranked the sharpness to 100 just to make their buds seem frostier, but cameras often dull trichs so it's a balancing act I think.

For less than 28 watts per sq ft I have to say I'm pretty happy with how things are turning out. This is the first grow I've done in nearly a decade, and only my second completed grow ever. This plant sparked my love of gardening though, so I felt well practiced when coming back to it. Don't expect to break any records but would like to hit somewhere around .5 gpw as a first(/second) goal. One random and unforeseen thing I like about this style of training btw, is that everyone watching at home can measure the bud sizes just by looking at the grid of the fencing. Find myself trying to decode the gauge of wires and ropes and stuff in other threads/pics to get a sense of size lol. I've been thinking about where this style of gardening could still play a role--besides with someone trying to get started for cheap, and I think this whole design, the room, fans, screen would be great for pheno hunting (4-8 at a time) bc every plant is under very near identical conditions. Just a thought. Hope everyone reading has been well.
