The next chapter

I need a place to keep track of this new grow since it is already evolving to the point where I am confusing myself trying to keep up with the current plan, so here it goes: The plan as it stands today.

The Strains from seed..trying out MSNL and their strains.

1. Original Glue
2. Girl Scout Cookies
3. Northern Lights
4. Gelato
5. Cheese (gifted from someone, I think paradise seeds...the have not arrived yet.)

All the seeds are feminized and I have 7 seedlings currently, which I refer to as young mothers.

I currently have them in small cups with a bit of soil in them, but I will be transplanting the mothers into extended reservoir hempy buckets in a few days. I will put in pictures once I lay out the plan.

The plan is to keep the mothers under either my 8 bulb t5 or 8 bulb t8 (I haven't decided, but I will probably start with the t8 and see how they do) My ex-hempy set up can currently hold up to 12 moms, so I will add moms as I see fit/acquire genetics.

I will be looking for keeper mothers, so I will top them each around the 5th or 6th node, then root the tops and veg them for a couple weeks before flipping them.

For cloning, I will build a DIY aero-cloner with 24 sites.

I have a grow room in my house, then a complete 3 bedroom house just dedicated for this grow.

The lighting will be vertical 600 HPS, which I have 4 of, and I plan on putting them in the middle of some 8 plant donuts. My first run will be all 7 mother tops, which consist of 1 GSC, 2 Gelato, 2 NL, 2 GG.

I have room for many Donuts, in several rooms, so I will eventually be monocroping the best yielders in each donut, while kepng a couple to experiment.

I also have a few 315w CMH lights. I will use these as follows:
Once the clones are well rooted, they will go into a veg donut with a 315w CMH in the center until they are the right size and shape to go into flower. I have enough veg room to run two veg donuts simultaneously.

I will later experiment with running a donut completely through veg and flower with the CMH with two donuts side by side in their own room...next door, will be two donuts with 600w HPS powering them. That will be my experiment room.

My goal is to start by staggering each donut by about 2.5 weeks since these strains will all go 8-10 weeks. Maybe by the third or fourth donut, I will have complete donuts of one strain...then I will dial it in from there as far as veg time, which will be the toughest part since I will be training and defoliating in veg...but once I am loading a donut every 2.5 weeks, veg time is irrelevant. I think I have the space for 13ish donuts, so the master plan is to harvest a donut each week.

The system for the donuts will be an undercurrent system like Heath Nasty showed us back in the OG days... 5 gal buckets with 2.5 gal inner buckets full of 'ton.

This evening, several hours after the feeding, I went to check on them and transplant the young Cheese mother....You will notice that the East side has a new addition.

It has been two days with no top watering and a couple plants looked a bit droopy, so I put some solution through the top.... close to 400ppm 5.9 ph.

I am not top feeding at all anymore, just watering the res once per week...Almost time to top these bitches and root the tops for some flower action... The next wave of genetics will be here in the next couple, maybe 3 days...

Several things happened in the garden today. First, the plants are looking great. The res' have a little algae of the green variety in them, which doesn't really hurt anything, so I let it go until the plants used up the nutrients in the extended res', which was today. So I removed the plants from the res', cleaned them with bleach, and left them empty so the plants can dry out for today and tomorrow before a fresh res full of nutes, with a cap full of bleach added to each res, for another growth explosion... Here are the plants at today, phase 1. Phase two in the next post.

I am going to top these young mothers, and root the tops, as I mentioned at the beginning. I also mentioned that I would be using defoliation as a training technique... that starts today. The idea is to get more light penetration throughout the canopy, un-shaded, so that I can produce more groth tips from the tightly spaced nodes (the reason I am using T5 at the start for mothers... to get that tight internodal spacing to develop. Once I top them, I want the new growth tips to come from each node, not just the top two. This will produce more potential clones.

In order to do this, I started to defoliate the bottom 2/3 of the plant's fan leaves, leaving the top 2-3 nodes full. I removed only fan leaves, and I left a tad of stem so as not to disturb the new growth at the nodes...these stems will dry up over the next day or two, and eventually fall off. When I feed the res' again, on the 22nd early morning, I expect there to be a growth explosion at each node right before I top them and put the tops in the aero cloner I built.

First, the sacrificed leaves in totality:

Not only did a new wave of genetics come in today, but my new bong did as well.. 18", dual percs, Ice Holder, glass on glass.... fittingly green. I pictured it next to my new 20oz starter cups, new black marker, and new genetics:

Plenty of taproots today.... everything with a tap has been planted...
I was originally planning on feeding the Res' today, but the pots felt pretty heavy still and the plants are perky, so I'll check it out tomorrow when I plant the next wave of taps...

Planted seeds:

The pots are still heavy and mothers still perky, so I decided to hold off until tomorrow to feed the Res' I did, however, remove a couple more fans per plant. I also noticed a bit of bleaching on the gelato, so I traded places with the GG1 monster.

I planted about 8 or so more seeds with tap roots as well.... Here are the pictures:

I fed the mothers today at EC of 954ish and 5.9ph, I am hoping to see a growth spurt in the next 24 hours, so we will see...

I also saw several sprouts, all with helmets on...I'll check on them again this evening and see how they are coming along...

We have got some sprouts galore... we are talking 24-36 hours in tap water, then 24-36 hours after planting... and we have this: I did remove a few helmets and there are still some with helmets on...Also, the seeds that haven't germinated yet, all got planted in the front row...

On another note, the hormex came in and the secondary growth is going well on the moms....So I should be firing up the aero cloner in the next day or two and topping these ladies...

I noticed that a lot of the sprouts had stretched quite a bit, were falling over, and they were dry. So, I mixed up some more soil/perlite, filled the cups all the way to bury some of the stretched stems and offer support, then I watered them in and put them on a high end, swapmeet riser (patent pending).

These moms are ready to be topped...So tomorrow is the day... The weather stripping is on the aero cloner, and I just have one finishing touch to do, which is handle the power cord of the pump in there. So in the morning, I will button it up, fire it up and check for leakage and coverage, then top these moms, dip them in the hormex solution, scuff the bottom of the stems a bit, and put them in the cloner...

So I didn't take cuts today, but I did complete the aero cloner and some other work in the grow room. I will take the cuts either late night tonight or in the morning.... The secondary growth is doing very well, as are the seedlings.

I am thinking about just cutting the top 3 or 4 nodes and rooting them, then letting the Hempy moms recover, and just flowering them. I can keep the clones as moms, and kind of Unify my set up, making everything in coco and grow bags... This will allow me also put larger plants into flower--increasing the yield ahead of the next wave that are just seedlings right now, but will be doing very well in 2-3 weeks. I will also have the "final wave" (in quotes because I say that a lot and it is rarely truly the last wave) of genetics coming in the next few days, along with my pest control, and last couple pieces of my nutrients ingredients (another reason I am hesitating to take the cuts. I want the drip clean in the cloner).

Regardles, everything is looking great:

I count 28 seedlings:

So I went to fire up the aero cloner...and the pump failed...a brand new pump, only turned on twice to test... I got the back up pump option out, and I couldn't find the PVC adaptor I bought for it... I have seedling tray/humidity dome/rooter plugs... I am considering going over to the compound later this evening and topping.... I also see some nute situation on one plant only... You tell me...
