Kalashnikov Seeds Kubanskiy Ubiyza "Killer Kuban"

This was a "freebie" I received from an order from Seedsman. Now that I know that my set up has no light leaks after running a few regular seed grows it's time to give topping a try. I let her grow to six nodes.

I had planned on topping her above the 3rd node, but unfortunately, there is only one new growth shoot there. I decided to top her above the 2nd node because there are two healthy shoots growing there.

After topping her I noticed the fan leaf on the left side of the picture was mutated, with only two fingers. The right side's is normal and you can see the size difference between the two. I'm assuming it's due to the mutated leaf. Hoping she catches up once she's recovered from the stress.

It does not seem like she was too affected by the topping. Could still see noticeable growth between pictures of day 1 and 2. Very noticeable from day 1 to 3. Minor LST to keep both new colas at same height.

I topped her one more time and I accidently, somehow ended up breaking one of the shoots right above a new node, essentially topping it again. She never seemed to slow down after topping, intentional or not.

Day I switched to 12/12

She has been receiving 1/3 to 1/2 recommended dose of Fox Farms Tiger Bloom once a week for the last two weeks. This week was a noticeable increase in bud site sizes. I will try to stay up to date with this grow log from here on out.

Was impressed with the trichome production over last few days. Took a look with my macro lens.

She has really filled out in the last week and the trichome development is crazy. In my short time growing this is definitely the most trich covered young plant I've had. It was fed bloom nutes at recommended dose and responded well. Removed 3 or 4 fan leaves that were blocking light to lower bud sites. Temperatures are staying around 75 during the day. I replaced my thermometer with one that will give me the high and low so I know what it's dropping to at night. Without further ado there are her pictures.

Took a shot right after the lights went out. She's packing on the trichs!

She was fed bloom nutes at 2.5 tsp/gallon. My plan is to top out at that and begin to reduce concentration over next few weeks. She's really starting to smell up the space. I love it. Had to remove some lower fan leaves that were starting to die off.

Sites are filling out and still packing on the trichs.

Love the zig zag structure of this cola and the possibility of what might be with this one excites me.

A couple close ups of trichs. Loving it.

My tent had a small fungus gnat infestation which I believe I have under control by killing the adults, dehydrating the plants, and added sand to the top inch of the pot as well as covering the the bottom of the pots with some of my wife's old panty hose. Hopefully I am on the winning side and my girls can grow without being attacked. Because of the bugs she didn't get much water this week and no nutrients. She continues to impress by bulking up weekly. I gave her a stem rub and she left my fingers smelling very citrusy.
Here are her pictures this week. You can see the added sand and the panty hose.
Killer Kuban day 40

You can see some brown spots on the fan leaf I suspect is from the gnats.

Looks great, sativa look in flowering, frosty and fast too. Nice work keeping this lady healthy and under control. Hope you got the fungus gnats beaten ok.

What is the fragrance like on her?

I'm interested to see how she finishes for you as I have seeds of a re-branded Kannabia version of this (likely the same thing) called Muneka Rusa (Russian Doll) which has exactly the same description.

Thanks pangolin. It seems I have the problem somewhat under control. I have not seen any of the dark colored adults in a bit over a week but I am still seeing a few rounds of the youngsters still. However, they seem to be meeting their demise via the orange juice or the sticky cards. As for the smells, the stem leaves my fingers with a distinct citrus smell, like I just peeled an orange but her flowers give off a bit sweeter fruit smell. It will be interesting to see how your seeds grow out. I've grown this company's, Kalishnikov Seeds, Blue Acid once when I first started and have 3 more of those seeds left to try now that I have a little better system. Thanks for checking in. Company says 55 days flower, so it's getting closer. Although I usually go a week or two past their suggestion, depending on what I'm seeing in those trichs!

I think I'm about 10 days or so from chopping her down. She is just getting plain water now. Sweet, fruity scent coming off her flowers. I had to remove quite a few lower fan leaves due to yellowing and some had brown splotches which I'm attributing to the gnat infestation I have been dealing with.

Breeders suggesting is 55 days flowering but I may extend it longer. Depends on what the trichomes tell me!

Not much to report because she's going to be harvested in a few days. Little water given this week so there's less moisture taken in before trying to dry. Here's her last photo shoot before the chop.

Macro

You can see the amber trichs in these shots. Letting me know she's right where I prefer them. Check in next week with photos post chop and hanging.

Coming to fruition quickly, very nice. They've bulked up well and the resin production looks great. Have a good harvest, look forward to hearing how she smokes.

This turned out to be a pleasant little freebie to grow out. Long dense buds covered in trichs. Weighed in at right around an ounce of finished product. Dried smell is that of a earthy citrusy scent. Nice smooth smoke that tastes more on the citrus side. Leaves me with a clear, functional high.
As for actually growing her she was a resilient, fast grower. Didn't take a lot of food or care. I would look into purchasing this strain some other time.

Finished pictures

Ta for the smoke notes and grow journal, it worked out well by the looks of things. Enjoy your harvest
