SF Kabookie13 Hillbilly Kush

This is my grow Journal For My first grow. For this grow I am using Strain SF Kabookie13 Hillbilly Kush from Seedbay.com. I am currently in the 4th week of Flower with this Grow but will be updating this Journal with threads starting from the beginning of the grow. It is my hope to place in the 1st Annual Summer Bud Competition with this Grow.

I started my grow by germinating the seeds using two wet paper towels. I used this method because I wanted to be sure that I had good germination and a successful tail. Once I achieved a successful germination I transferred the germinated seeds to 8oz cups to begin there seedling phase. I used a mix of seed starter soil with extra vermiculite, peatmoss, and perlite. Espoma Organic Starter formula is also added to the soil prior to use. I then placed my seedlings under a 4 bulb T5 setup with 4 6000k spectrum veg bulbs. I kept the lamp about 4 inches away from the seedlings. I slowly raised the light over the course of 3 weeks until the seedlings were ready to be again transferred to 1/2 gallon grow bags.

So after 3 weeks of seedling growth I transferred the seedlings into 1/2 gallon grow bags. This was simple as they had fully consumed the soil in the 8oz cups and made perfect root balls. After transferring the seedlings I again put them back under the light on a 24/0 cycle. I have been using a 24/0 cycle from the beginning. I didn't add any nutrients to the soil during this transfer. Now that all the seedlings are in larger pots I can begin to plant ahead and prepare for the rest of the grow.

I started the veg stage around the 2-3 week of april. I keep the plants on a constant 24/0 light cycle and they grew fast. It wasn't long after the transfer that they shot up and sprouted into maturity. Once the plants showed they had recovered from the transfer I began a water and feeding cycle. I would water when the knuckle test said the soil was dry and applied nutrients once per week. I used a mix of Miracle Grow pour and feed and MG Liquid Plant food Concentrate to make my own strength of feed. The plants responded well to this cycle and began to progress and grow nodal growths that extended outward horizontally. Because my grow space is a closet I was a little restricted on the size I could grow too. My closet is 24"x72"x84" and in that I had to fit my lights, fan and plants. So on may 12th 2014 when my plants were 24" tall I switch my lamp to a 12/12 cycle.

So after 3-4 weeks of vegetative growth on May 12th I switched my grow off the 24/0 Cycle to a 12/12 cycle to prepare for flowering. However, I still left my all 4 6000k veg bulbs in my light setup. I did this because I felt that the plants would be able to use the extra spectrum during the transition from Veg to Flower. At the end of the 1st week on 12/12 pistils began to show up on my plants. I also removed 4 males from the group. I allowed another full week to pass then at the end of the second week on 12/12 I switched out 2 of the 4 6000k bulbs for 3000k spectrum bloom bulbs. I believe that the 2 3000k bloom bulbs will help fatten my buds while the remaining 6000k bulbs will help keep the plants str ength up by providing light in the blue spectrum. Again this is just my opinion but so far it has produced great results.

So now my grow is in its 4th week of flower. My cycle remains at 12/12, I water when dry and feed weekly with 1/2 strength nutrients. My plants are now at about 36"-40" and have beautiful buds growing. The flowers are a beautiful off white color with long pistils. The aroma is sweet and fruity with a hint of Lemony Scent. The buds are growing larger everyday an are getting beautiful tricomes growth that creates a nice frosty appearance. The main colas are at a nice size and are fattening up nice. They continue to get larger and larger everyday. They are in the middle of their 4th week and I am expecting about 3 more weeks of bloom to go. I am excited to see what the final size is although I am already very pleased. The temperature holds steady between 75*F and 85*F while the humidity stays between 55 and 75%. I am expecting a growth spurt to occur during weeks 6 and 7 and I hope that I am right. I am very please with how well my first grow is going and feel if I can do this good the first time around the possibilities are limitless. Still other than the rewarding feeling of success, I gain a sense of peace while working with my grow. When I am working in my closet I am exactly where I wanna be. Stress free and happy and having the end result makes it all the better. So from here on in I will provide weekly updates until harvest and curing is complete.
Till then......see ya.

So my friends, the 4th week of flowering is coming to an end. The 5th week will begin on Monday. So due to the fact that I have heard that extensive bud growth occurs during the last 3 weeks of blooming and my strain is suppose to be a medium/fast flower time of 8 weeks labeled by the breeder; I wanted to post some close up bud pictures for us to compare when and if the bloom spurt occurs during these last three weeks. Please note Now that doesn't by any means, mean that I will not allow the flowering time to extend if the tricomes are not ready. Although the breeder lists a 8 week flower time, nature doesn't always agree and in a stalemate nature wins every time. So I will be checking the tricomes with my 40x 25mm LED Jewelers Loupe and only when the plant tells me she's ready will I harvest. But for now enjoy some pictures.

Enjoy!

Hello all! NyUrbanFarmer here to lay out another entry on my Hillbilly Kush grow. Tomorrow starts the 5th week of flower for my girls. I have been monitoring the tricomes through out the entire flowering process so I can get a good idea under the loupe of how they develop all through the cycle. So today I looked under the scope and I noticed that the tricomes aren't as shiny and glassy anymore. I believe that they are beginning to turn opaque and that is why they are loosing that glassy appearance. So we will see as this next week passes. Also the flowers are starting to get orange pistils. So ill keep you updated. till the next.
