The 'Swaze Blast' Experiment ;)

So recently I decided I should put the knowledge I have been learning over the years into practice and have a go at all things weed!

So this will be my first attempt at crossing =)

I will be crossing a Afro Pips - Fast Blast male with a Afro Pips - Swazi Red female.

This is a test really as the male was not selected very well having been the only seedling to survive from a batch that got rot :( The Mother is all good though and was the biggest, smelliest and most crystally of the bunch!

The pollen was collected a few months ago and has been hibernating in my freezer.

Advice on defrosting this would be appreciated You may have seen my previous post on preserving seeds/pollen so I think I have it right

So last night due to low lighting and mould! I moved the Swazi Red cuttings to the flowering room:

Looking a little worse for wear at the moment but hopefully they will pick up

So they started to perk up, but the pump has decided to play up a bit today so they look a little thirsty, they will pick up in the next few hours

Just switched them to 12/12, was meaning to on tuesday but I've been too busy and although I still need to refill the res tomorrow, I felt I had to switch them today since they are already a tad large so I got my work cut out to keep them under control Glad I got a lot of space to play with just for growing sats as they like to grow

@McSnappler: Yeah! I wanted them about as big as the front left one mebbe a lil smaller but ho hum The last one I had was massive but I managed to snap the offending branches with very good effect! The bud was so fat and dense it showed my bad air circulation, so I stuck another fan in this time round

I'm going selective as I want to smoke some too Gonna kill the fans and paint some on then bag up the branch Haven't got loads of pollen this time round is another reason

They are all from the same Mum but I think I will pick the front left just cos it's my favourite. Should I have favourites tho or is that 'bad dad'?

LoL @ bad dad.

You can dilute the pollen with flour I believe, if you want it to go further. 10/1 ratio I recall, but it's worth having a search to double check.

Right took some cuts of this on sunday as the mother was getting huge! I also cut her back while I was at it to a size closer to the one I originally intended and if it fills out more in the middle I may even cut it back more.

I plan to root prune her on the weekend and chuck in some more compost just to give her a boost and try stop her reaching for the skies again

I love how strong she is though she just grows! never sheds anything and looks so pretty with her leaves!

The cuts are a dark green colour and have slumped down for now but look like their doing well. Mummy is greening up her leaves as they where blocked from the light before.

I also need to get a new light to go in the veg room when I get my supplies from the shop next Tomorrow maybe now I got paid All the things I need to buy :( Wanna get some fruit trees on the go but I only recently learnt most I wanna grow will take years to grow and I might not be here then

the male is actually a good choice, breeding rot resistance into your strain.

I dusted the Swazi Red with the Fast Blast pollen today and refilled the rez. Still need to prune out some of the growth from the bottom but they are pretty spacious and getting light for now but I know that's gonna be a different story if they bud like last time

I have also been snapping some stems! To keep these bad girls under control, but looking at them I may need to now train the branches shooting off those snapped branches as they are all reaching for the sky!.

I spoke a bit too soon on here about having cured my procrastination and putting off tasks meant I put off checks too and burnt some tops but it's all good

@oldbootz: Cheers for stopping bye Any advice or comments you have are welcome

@green-thumb: Thanks for the info! I don't know a lot about Fast Blast not having grown it out before :( I do know the Swazi could do with the rot protection tho! It was more fate than a choice tho

More pics! I shall try to get better with the pics cos these ain't really fully illustrative of what I'm seein seen! If all else fails I'll kill the HPS next time

It may not be a trait of Fast Blast but your male was the only one to survive the rot, ie: it has rot resistance.

When breeding it is actually good to have some diseases and pests attack your plants if you are looking to breed resistant plants. Just by breed the ones that were the least affected you are breeding resistance into the new strain.

They are starting to fatten up now and it's end of week 4 Not as big as the papaya of course but I think they are on track The last time I grew these they where a very tickly to harsh smoke so hopefully I improve on that this time

8 weeks in and there are furry spikey heads all over the place, looks a bit like some crazy cotton bush

They had a drought too but seemed to cope well only a small amount of dead leaves on the front two and it was so slight I thought it was something else like rot!

They look good now tho but I need a fan under the canope I think in the next week or two so hopefully they can have the fan I'm using on my papaya.

They are smelling kinda spicy but if I disturb them I get a nice lemony smell

I shall hopefully take some pics of these later

Grrr bloody bud rot attack! The ladies had been super cropped making it difficult to yoyo them up or so I thought until I tried but it was too late the tops touching the wall at the back caught it and I cut them but it's still spreading and under constant watch! I thought I had it all as nothing for 2 days so left it another 2 days and came back to 1/2 to an oz with rot! :(

It's still got just under 4 weeks to go really but I'm not sure if I should just flush when it has 3 weeks to go and forget about letting go full time so I get some nicely flushed bud to smoke rather than it all ending up oil. I can see maybe about 30% hairs turning if that, mostly the lower buds the tops or whats left is still mostly white haven't looked at the trichs but at a guess I'd say most are clear. I had a smoke of some dried un affected bud and it was a nice smoke not too strong but it gave my girl a bit of sketchyness not sure if longer would fix that or it's just the strain with her.

I was supposed to get some silica which I think would have helped as it always used to but haven't managed to get to the shop :( Next time

Does everyone else filter their incoming air too? I still wonder if that's partly to blame as I have had this the last two years at certain times of the year but never used to before that except with one strain.

Anyway there is still enough bud for me so it's all good just wish I knew I could get it to the end :(

Next time I think I will run less of these at a time as they bud enough to fill a tent with just one really!

Next run will be the Fast Blast male cuttings I'm gonna make soon as I don't think the pollen took this time as I had a meagre amount so I'm gonna make loads now and store it then I can throw out the father to save some space for other things
