California Orange Bud Grow Notes
GROWTH HABITS: This plant is a FAST growing plant. Will easily reach 5 feet indoors with a width of 3 feet) in 6 weeks of 24/7 vegging from seed. Males tend to be larger and will show sex in veg. Females show sex about 10-14 days after flipping to 12/12. No tendency to hermie at all. Don't worry if you have a little light leak, mine did not seem to mind at all. GERM RATIO: Rec'd 10 seeds, all germed. 6 girls, 4 boys. FERTILIZATION: Responds well to feeding with molasses. Doubles weight of buds. I was using MG soil, and by bloom time I hit the rascals with some Sugar Daddy ( I use additives per direction) and some Northern Lights Fat Flower, and I threw in some Jack's Classic Blossom 1/4 strength Booster Ferts as well. Cali Orange never burned, and never showed problems with overfeeding. Dose with CalMag Plus when little at transplant times to avoid Mag deficiency, which I had trouble with until I got CalMag. After I started dosing, never had any trouble with deficiencies again. Preventative medicine. Vegging a little longer to get a bigger plant pays off in BUDS. CLONING: Cali Orange roots very easily and clones best in about 7 days in peat pellets for me. Roots a little slower for me in hydro mediums. Will root in glass of water on windowsill in 14-21 days, but does not like it. OUTDOOR REPORT: I put a clone of this strain outdoors last summer, and it did well organically, with no nutes and just some cow shit that was lying around the pasture. I stuck her in a fence row, and she stayed branchy and low, blended in. Had to harvest a little early due to signs of bud rot due to dense buds and lots of rain. PESTS/RESISTANCE: Cali Orange is not that attractive to spider mites, they don't like the smell, avoid it, but do attack this plant, they ARE spider mites. I noticed quite a few ladybugs I released seemed to like hanging out on this strain for some reason. Seemed to be resistant to powdery mildew when my indoor got attacked. It was the last plant to show signs of infection. Rabbits and deer find Cali Orange Bud particularly delicious. Plant in protected area or it will be eaten. If plant is put out early and fertilized well, should reach 8 feet tall (mine did not, but there's always next year!) COLD RESISTANCE/HEAT TOLERANCE: I was growing this stuff indoors in winter, and lost power for 12 days and nites. No heat no lights. Cali Orange plants survived this with no signs of damage!!!! Inside temps had dropped to 36 degrees Farenheit and had stayed there for 12 days and nights. Outdoors will tolerate humidty and heat. WATERING: Does not like to go without water. Not drought resistant (go get Ice Cool instead). COB will keel over if there is no rain and water. Indoors allow to sit in runoff water overnight if plant absorbs all water in tray. Drain off water next day if any is left, there probably won't be. Outdoors will not grow if not watered every 4 days. If it doesn't rain for 5 days, better go throw on some water and ferts. I would recommend putting this one in a big pot outdoors if possible due to watering needs. Does not like her buds to be wet. BUDDING TIMES: Can be harvested at 8 weeks when trichs are clear, still a good buzz. Harvesting at 10 weeks will give you 20% heavier buds, increased trichs, some amber trichomes. If you can wait and harvest at 12 weeks, buds will be at their heaviest, with 50/50 trichs and will really be fragrant. As the bud ages on the plant, the orange smell tends to change and get more "funky". That is when it is the best in my opinion. FLUSHING: Tastes a tiny bit better flushed, but still tastes good if you don't mess with flushing your weed. I can't tell much difference between the two. BAG APPEAL: High bag appeal. Mature buds have orange pistils. This is one strain everyone wants more of. Friends ask "Got any of that orange stuff ?", every time they see you. A big Hit. Once you open a jar and smell that wonderful orange smell, you are hooked. MEDICAL USES: Rating each on 1-10 scale. Anxiety relief: 6 Pain: 5 Muscle Relief: 8 (best for morning stretching back into place!) CURRENT TEST CROSSES IN PROGRESS: 1) Nirvana California Orange x Sourbubble BX4 IX Mother B (GrapeVine Seeds). 2) COB x Grape Krush 3) DJ Shorts Blueberry x Cali Orange Bud 4) DJ Shorts True Blueberry x Cali Orange Bud Enjoy!

Thanks for the report. I have some seedlings. I think at least 6 out of 10 have survived so far and they aren't 2 inches tall yet. Still waiting to see how it goes.

I had 3 Cali O's in last grow. Good yield, but potency was... daytime. I like my meds strong even in morning. Gave helluva munchies which is also negative.

Rig: It tastes like oranges on the inhale AND exhale. Itis some good weed. I always find keepers in every pack of Nirvana Beans, they are the best value for the money.

Mine were packed in June 07 according to seed packet. I bought them in Fall of 08, and was concerned they might be old stock, but all have germed well. I have also crossed this to DJ's Grape Krush and also to Grapevine's Sourbubble. I also made a big batch of beans from the pack I bought, so will be making more Cali O crosses for my enjoyment as time permits. The buds are sweet and orangy on the exhale even. Highly recommend this strain for a good orange flavor. Perhaps you should order 2 packs to see if the 2 good phenos (possibly 3) that I have found. Orange Baby Aspirin pheno is not as big a yielder as Orangy Orange Phenos (2 possible). It is a joy to grow outdoors, but plant early, harvest early or keep in a pot outside! She likes ferts! AND She is spider mite resistant! I had an outbreak of spider mites, and they just didn't seem to like this pheno as much.

It seems Nirvana changed the make up of this strain. Grew it out in '05 and it was just as Lolagal described it. Tried it again in '08 and didn't get a single decent pheno, barely had any of that trademark orange candy smell and taste, also didn't have the bright orange pistils the strain is known for.

The Nirvana skunk with its 20cm purple leaf stems and often-deformed big dark green leaves :) How familiar a sight to someone used to Nirvana seeds...
