Males from the Geisha test grow .....

Along with two outstanding femalesa recent test grow produced some vigorous and fast growing males , have decided to go with this one based on overall vigour and structure , stem odour and trichome coverage.

This one was hacked down to a stump and regenerated into a large bush very fast in a greenhouse.
Leaf form is quite sativa and consistant.

Twenty or so shoots now comeing into second flower will be used in a number of small test crosses over the next month on a selection of old cuts.
Not seen so many hairs on a male before and looks almost female from a distance.

Have kept a number of likely males over the last few years and this is the first to show trichomes in any large amount , most smaller leaves have enougth to make it worthwhile recovering and many of the pods have a good coverage.

This pod really does look like a bunch of bananas.

Will not know till they are grown out but saw nothing bad in the test grows and expect some good if varied results , first some standard crosses with well known and worked cuts to get a feel for it and its reliability , it is certainly very fertile.
Cuts root fast and easy in a bubbler even whilst dropping pollen and will keep it as a clone till it proves itself.

Anyone else got any plans for males and any more resinous ones out there ?

If you have hesitated to get involved with amateur breeding due to concerns of space or possible inadvertant fertilisation i would say give it a go , the pleasure and interest to be gained is well worth a little effort and organisation and i regret not doing it sooner.

Very nice males Foomar!

JLP's male isolation chamber

is also a great way to try some breeding/pollen chucking without contaminating your entire grow.

Blumats! Automatic watering!

Vertical Blumat grow

Blumat adjustment procedure: (for soil)In a bucket ,fill and soak units under water for at LEAST an hour. Then screw on cap( nice and tight!) under water making sure not to trap any air.
Leave dripper line at ~8cm. long.
Give the pot a good watering.
Insert B/M snugly into nicely compacted soil(not too loose) .
Open till water comes out, carefully close until just a drop barely forms.
Tighten 1.75 - 2 Arrows
Adjust as necessary for a few days, then leave it alone!

Three months on and it has proven to be a good choice.

Crossed with a basic NL it adds stretch and places budsites away from the stem , buds more spherical and mixed fruit odours and tastes added .

Now cropping the (Blackberry x C99) x Geisha females and they have done quite well.
The male has added considerable stretch and movement of budsites with less leafiness , colour from the blackberry side has been retained in five from seven females and one from three males is deeply coloured.

The dense rounded buds seen in some Geisha females has shown in some of the progeny but most are more sativa looser budded , odour of the Geishas is dominant on all plants over the parent female and is delightfull.

Yield from both crosses is enhanced and overall they are a significant improvement on the target females.

No hermies seen so far from these crosses , the only downside is for some stems to be thin and needing support till mid flower when they harden up and an increased flower time for most.

Ther is enougth variation imparted for every individual plant so far to be identifiable in some way , germing five a week running the numbers and keeping clones of anything interesting of both sexes and will probably work this line for a year or two and see what i can come up with.

Have a fine clone of G13-Diesel which might go well and a Chem x SD which could use a boost in stability and structure but may be too hermie to bother with.
