Is it true that joints produce more carbon monoxide than cigs?

I've heard it before, but I figured they were just trying to keep people from smoking weed.

it may be true.. but theres something else in cannabis that protects us from getting illness, no one knows what it is and the government hates that fact.. No one has ever died from cannabis, ever.

I maybe wrong but I do not see how that is possible, normally drying and curing agents are not used on MJ. Tobacco, that is another story

I'm pretty sure that may be the case PM, but then from another perspective combine the volumes burned in the average day.

As to cannabis smoke containing more carbon monoxide, I really have no idea. Did find one article with a little searching which revers to a New Zealand study. Couple of interesting quotes:

Quote:
A study by New Zealand's Medical Research Institute identified the dose equivalence between cannabis and cigarette smoking and found that longtime pot smokers can develop symptoms of asthma and bronchitis along with obstruction of the large airways and excessive lung inflation (snip)

However, the study found that the progressive chronic lung disease emphysema, often associated with cigarette smoking, was uncommon among cannabis smokers. Only 1.3 per cent of the long-term pot smokers were found to have signs of the disease compared to 16.3 per cent of those who combined marijuana and tobacco and 18.9 per cent of those who only smoked tobacco. (note the progression of numbers there, hmmmm...) (snip)

Earlier studies have shown that smoking one joint results in three to five times more carbon monoxide and tar inhaled than smoking a cigarette of the same size. The New Zealand research also showed that the "products of combustion" in marijuana are very similar to tobacco, Beasley said.

Part of the reason for this is the way joints are smoked, with users often inhaling and holding the smoke in longer for a better hit. Marijuana joints typically do not have filters and they have shorter butts than cigarettes with a higher smoke temperature. Pot also is commonly smoked through various types of pipes

Yes, and doesn't tar in your lungs cause cancer? But I heard also there is something that cancels that.

Yes thats another thing that must be considered .... tobacco smokers seem to smoke DOZENS of cigarettes per day, whereas daily pot smokes just smoke a few "cones" worth, probably about the equiv of one or two ciggies worth of stufff

Remember folks, the main reason cigarettes are so bad for your health is NOT from the tobacco, it's from the 300 some odd chemicals they use in the processing of tobacco and cigarette manufacturing.

My guess is that cigarettes product MORE Carbon Monoxide because of the number of chemicals that are present on the tobacco. But of course we can't know because Big T doesn't need to tell anyone what they spray on the it like most other products for human consumption.

Back when I smoked both cigs and weed, I would cough up huge black chunks after a morning bong hit. Since quitting, I have yet to cough up anything nearly as nasty as back then.
