HPS bulb

Just got a new 1000 HPS to replace an older one. I hooked it up, turned it on and waited a few hours, for some reason this new bulb seems dimmer than the old one that's already been used for a few monthes. Do I have a dud or does it require kind of a breaking in period before it really shines. The newer bulb is from 1000bulbs.com, the older one is a sylvania lumalux, both are rated 130000 initial lumens.

peace

My sugesstion is to take it back and get a "new" replacement. It should never need a "break in" period, most are up to speed in 15 minutes or less.

definitely take it back. But my question is why did you purchase a new one when you state the other is only a few months old?

I should've clarified, my bad. I think it's been like 8 monthes or so on 12/12 so maybe it's still good enough, but I just wanted to get the best results I could while it's still cool enough around me to use a 1000 watter. I'll return it, and get another one somewhere else. I got it at 1000bulbs.com, for 35 bucks, they have the hortilux at 75 bucks and also complete systems and components. their prices were a bit better than most other places I've looked. Anywho, thanks for the responses guys. I thought it was weird but wanted to make sure. Do you think my old bulb at about 4 monthes continuous use is still fine? If so maybe I'll save the money and get some beans, never can have to many of those.

I always suggest to get or borrow a PAR meter or lumens meter at least, so you "know" how much degradation has taken place before either waiting too long or replacing too soon! The meters are not cheap but can also be used to max light reflection and saves its price once you dial in your bulbs life. jmto

Thats odd, I've purchased from them on many occasions without any problems. They've been around for years. Anyways, that sucks.. :(
