light shutting down
I have a 1000w hps hortilux in a grower's pride hood (from access direct) it's all on a linear light mover in the closet. at one end of the closet, the hood catches the wall, and is pulled off level. it turns on at 7:30 am, came on fine this morning, but around 9:00, I notice the sun had set in my bedroom closet. the light was still moving, which says the timer is ok, and, I think the terminal strip. I hit the switch on the ballast and got a brief flash. how do I tell if the bulb is blown? suggestions anyone? I'll have someone help me level it in a couple weeks.

I think you take it out and look at it, a blow out should be very obvious most o the time. Have you checked all the connections to your ballast and to your hood? Sometimes repetiitive movement can incrementally move cords and such until they disconnect

I got it back online, I'm not really sure what is going on, I shut it all off for an hour or so, and wiggled the conections and cycled the switches on the terminal strip and the ballast.

be caeful for hot starting your light. hps requires a cool down period before re-starting or else you can blow youe bulb. Let it cool first and than restart. Sometimes your connections at the outlet draws high startup curent causing possible shutdowns.

Could be the bulb failing. Sounds like what happened to me with my HPS. It started just like that, one day I had trouble getting it to fire. Did exactly what you did and it came on and worked for awhile (couple o months) then it went bad and starting cycling trying to start. Changed the bulb and all works great now. Just my 2 cents worth ...
Good Luck. Mo,
