Food Dehydrator For Drying Buds ??

Has anyone tried a food dehydrator for drying buds? I was just wondering how this method works. I would imagine that you still have to cure the buds.

As convenient as this this sounds, the end result will be a very harsh smoke with a most unpleasant taste as the chlorophyll has not had the chance to convert into starches and sugars.

The only "semi-acceptable" ways to use a food dehydrator to dry your buds are:
(a) Buy one that lets you turn off the heating element completely
or
(b) Open the electronics of said dehydrator and manually disable the heating element (there are instructions for this on OG and CW).

I have never tried it (only a proper dry and cure for Juan) but thats what I've read.

Thanks everyone. I think I will stick to the hang, paper bag, then jar cure method. I may have to experiment a bit though. I remember the bright green buds in the late '70's. They had red hairs, but I don't remember seeing tricomes like todays bud.

You guys are right. The longer the bud stays in the jar to cure, the better the flavor and aroma.

Peace

Seems like you guys didnt quite here this guy. He isn't trying to find an alternative to curing just drying. You people that tried the dehydrator, did you smoke it straight as soon as it was dry or did you try curing it? I personally can't imagine that there is no way to get the moisture faster and as effective as slow drying without any reduction in THC, I just don't know enough about the science to come up with it.

This is my personal opinion and that's it...nothing more or less. A food dehydrator is a good tool to act as a catalyst to speed up the drying process! And just that the drying process, not the curing process! Using the dehydrator to dry your buds out for an hour to two would be sufficient and increases the rate of drying. Smoking straight after the drying process would give you a good idea of the characteristics of the high, but not the aroma and taste. After drying your buds, then cure them in a jar for awhile, which will increase overall flavor and aroma! Again this is my opinion, based on my experiences and it is not the ONLY way to do it! peace, tRu

When I helped my ex's friend with his grows, he would use a dehydrator just as a method to test out a few buds like trukemist said. Even doing that, you didn't get the full flavor or aroma as a fully cured and dried bud. We hung them up and then jar cured them. After a good three months... that was some really good smoke!
