Metformin (Glucophage) is an oral medication designed to lower insulin resistance. The actions of glucophage are NOT effected by the use of cannabis.
In fact, as a Type 1 myself I've watched this issue very carefully. I have not noticed any real impact on my diabetes from cannabis other than it helps with my neuropathy and I have to select low carb snack foods. Yours, Dr. jay

I am a type II diabetic and I second what Dr. Jay has to say. I take both metformin (Glucophage) and Avandia (I forget the generic name), two very common oral agents for diabetes. I'm in good control and I see no correlation between cannabis use and blood sugar variation. I also use cannabis for diabetic neuropathy and agree with Dr. Jay on that count, too. It helps a lot.One piece of advice: try a vaporizer. In the long run, diabetics should avoid smoking, IMHO. I'm trying to take good care of the capillaries in my feet--the ones I've got left, anyway! (Rhetorical question: If diabetes destroys the feeling in my feet, could it at least target the neuropathic feeling, for God's sake?) Best of luck to you. Onus |

i am a type 1 on a paridigm insulin pump and can confirm that it can be very useful in the treatment of diabetes.my a1c levels have been around 5.8-6.3 for the last 3years.i contribute alot to the addition of the pump but alot goes to trees because it helps me maintain a steady appetite, which is instrumental, and healthy sleeping patterns, along with help with the nueropathy and other conditions that may result from diabetes.
