Just got a baby Ball Python on Friday....sooo cute.

About big enough to fill the palm of yer hand when curled up....will get about 5 feet when mature, and will probably live at least 25 years.

We opted for a snake as my wife is allergic to fur, and we all love snakes...esp my 6 year old daughter.

It's name is Dreyfuss, and I will try to put up some pics at some point soon.

i wish they could stay small ... the are so cool when they are little like that, the skin on them is far out.

I personally love huge snakes, but don't have the facilities to keep them...I live in a duplex, lol.

Would love to get a species that does get big one day, like an Indian Rock Python or some such.

A friend of mine who lives in the UK owns one of the 5 largest snakes in captivity in the world....she is about 29 feet long, weighs over 300 lbs and her head is 18" long.

She can eat sheep, but usually gets fed giant Belgian rabbits that weigh about 35 lbs a piece.

Be careful as ball pythons are escape artists. They are extremely friendly and dont ever get beyond a managable size. One of my buddies has a 6ft9inch rainbow boa, and an 12 ft long albino python. The boa eats large rats, and the python eats rabbits. You should see the ablino under a black light, its bad as heel to see and albino snake eat a white rabbit under a black light. Its worth noting that watching the smaller snakes feed is fun, but when they get big and their roof nail sized fangs hit a rabbit and it squrits blood onto the cage........you are almost at a loss of words.

I wanted to get a ball python a while ago, until I found out how long they live, I did not think it would be fair to teh animal, that I was not prepared to make that long of a commitment.

But cool for you, I am kind of envious

You are right Dr. Dog. Most marriages don't last 25 years. If you get divorced, who gets the snake?
