Help with sterilite dwc bubbler

Hi im another new guy on the block. Ive done alot of research on bubblers, but still have a few questions.
I have 2 sterilite 10 gal tubs which i plan to grow two plants a piece in.
question- will one walmart aqua air pump(20-60 gal) be enough for each tub? the pumps are dual outlet so ill have two 1" airstones per tub.
im on a tight budget and this is my first try at hydro so any input is greatly appreciated.

anyone who is using dwc tubs like these (not buckets) please post your setups or point me to a good thread. thanks guys

I use the sterilite tubs. I use a small clone spinner pump in my setup. I would imagine a two outlet air pump with two six inch stones would work fine. The bubbling causes the ph to fluctuate. Watch your ph carefully. Good luck with your new eqpt.

You'll do fine with what your suggesting. I used the same pumps with my DWC and it worked fine.

Good luck,

Hey Alaskanm80! --

I'd suggest you not go with the li'l bitty 1" stones though... Go ahead and get the 6", or longer, ones as they're not much more. Toss a couple of those in there, driven by that 20-60 Whisper Pump, and they should do fine!

thanks alot for the input guys. im gonna keep the pumps i have and get a couple of the 4" or 6" stones/wands.
oh and another couple questions on these ten gallon tubs. where should the water level be at when i put my sprouted seeds in? i have the 3 1/2" net pots?
also i could use some suggestions on something else to use for grow rocks. my local hydro store only sells the rocks in 50 lb bags. i dont know if there is something else from a nursery or greenhouse i could use. ive heard of lava rocks but dont know where to get them.
sorry about the dumb ?'s but like i said im new to hydro.
thanks again guys

Hey Alaskanm80! --

Well, it looks like ya got me again! Hope that's alright, as I am more of a BucketHead!!

Are you using Rockwool cubes for germination? If so, the general wisdom says to keep your res's water level such that it just splashes the bottoms of your cubes {in their netpots} in order to get/keep the roots wet.

Once the roots have grown out of the netpots, and into the drink, you can lower the water level to just below the netpots, again to where the splash effect of the bubbles keeps the bottoms of the netpots wet...

As for medium, I use Red Lava Rock landscaping rock... In season, most Garden Centers, Home Depot, Lowes, etc., will carry it in their gardening area. I was looking at a bag yesterday at Home Depot for like $3.50 [US].

With the Lava Rock, be sure to wash it real good though! The initial sediment you will get out will really gunk up your system, and toss off your pH, if you don't. But it is an excellent medium, and holds your plants up very nicely!!!

Hope that helps!

Heres my 18 gallon rubbermaid, with that airpump, and three 8 inch air wands.
I believe they have pea sized lava rocks in the fireplace section of lowes, maybe home depot.
