PH Rising While Its Just Siting.................NOT EVEN FEEDING!

My reservoir PH Keeps rising after adding PH down every day. Whats causes this? I use advanced nutes Sensi 2 part with all the 2+ additives minus mother earth, plus nirvana and VHO.(starting to wish I hadn't gotten ALL of it now). It has 25 gall., air stone and air rope, small pump on all the time inside, temp. around 68, and its mostly shaded by the flood tray. The water is tap at 130ppm....sat out for 3 days. I heard there was a great write up about buffering and ph on here but I can't find it. Anyone else ever had an issue like this? Any help would be most appreciated.

your tap is low...
you didnt put the VHO IN the res did you?
you didnt even read its a foliar... it works but shit i rarely use mine. 95% full after 3 years.
do you really have a res with nutes just sitting with no plants running through??
if its warm itll rise..

I can help explain it to you......i am a bit obsessed with pH and hydro-dynamics....

So you have a given quantity of water in your reservoir, right? That water sits there and then POW you introduce oxygen into that water with your air-pump and air-stone.....this immediately raises the pH of your water, as the influx of oxygen "kicks out" all the remaining Carbonic Acid (H2CO3) in that quantity of water......Carbonic Acid is the mechanism by which CO2 remains "locked" in water and, as you may have guessed, is slightly acidic.....

The chemical equations describing this process is very very complex, but i finally discovered this phenomenon after i read some papers on lake ecology......

If you want additional information, i am always happy to respond to private messages (once you hit 50 posts, you get the opportunity to respond to private messages).....I know somewhere i made a massive pH thread, but honestly i am not quite sure where it is locked in the electronic ICmag catacombs......

Good luck all you pH warriors!!!!

kind regards from a guineapig

its the beni's..if using the entire 2+ line in hydro the beni's will over take the res fast and I usually notice a rise in ph especially for the 1st few days..

never heard of putting VHO in the res though and I'm not familiar with nirvana.

I used to grow using the 2+ line in hydro flood and drain and knocked the P&T down to 1 dose at 33% to help keep em in check...they multiply fast in hydro..

Sensi A&B by itself it a lot more stable ph wise..

I like the VHO to stretch apart erkle or grandaddy or anything I want to stretch.. i hit with a foliar or 2 of VHO..but I never put it in the res though havent heard of that one..

Thanks for the responses fellas....and no I'm not puting VHO into the res! I guess I should have clarified that. I was told that P and T could cause a steady rise in ph...thats why I cut it back over 60%. It was just sitting there because i had a gallon of nutes I was finishing out...so I thought I would go ahead and mix up the big res and try to stableize the PH, before I started the ebb and flow.

Guineapig...thanks a lot bro. I'll definately be in contact with you. Now that I know you had a thread, I'll just search your posts and maybe I'll find it that way.
