GHS test grow Himalayan Gold and Cheese
Ok, so I've read all the opinions on GHS in their forums here and when the GHS forum was closed, in other forums. Some very pro and of course, some very CON. I've always used femmed seeds from Female Seeds (sorry GHS, not trying to advertise here but for this thread it's necessary) and haven't had any germ problems or hermed seeds. Due to lack of stock I've had to look elsewhere this year and believe it or not I settled on GHS. I am completely unbiased and have never tried to germ or grow a GHS product.
My germ technique will be simple and the same way I've always done before. I use a washrag (very clean, no soap residue) folded four times. I saturate the washrag, open to the middle fold and spread my seeds inside. I then put it in a small flat tupperware container, put the top on and put it in a dark area that has an average temp of 80 degrees. To keep the roots from growing into the washrag, once they sprout a tail I turn them daily until the tail root is approx 3/8" long and then put them tail down into a small foam dixie type cup. Some will go into my mini-greenhouse and some I will start in a windowsill. The reason for starting in two different places is I want to see the difference in growth patterns for personal reasons. I will continue this thread throughout the summer and all the way to harvest. As I stated above I have never grown any GHS strain and am a commercial/personal grower just as are most of you. All information I will put in this thread will be as factual as I can tell it and will be complete with pictures. I am awaiting my order as we speak so this thread is to be continued....I am aware of peeps pissed off about GHS and everything you have to say. Please do not use this thread to flame them. If that is your wish, please start your own thread and flame as you please. Waiting on my seeds............ |

All outdoors bro. I'll veg mostly in a greenhouse and plant outdoors once they are 12-15". Sta-Green soil with a bone meal, blood meal, epsom salt and dolomite lime mix. Some will be in pots that will hold exactly 3 cubic feet of soil and the rest will be planted right into the ground. Deer cages built out of chickenwire and painted with flat finish green outdoor paint and I'm off to see the wizard. I'm also going to do a thread in the Outdoor Growers forum but thought I'd do one here as well. Lots of controversy on GHS so I'm going to show my results here good or bad. I put off using femmed seeds for a few years after listening to the "gonna go hermie on ya" hype and after using them for 3 years I'm sold. Putting GHS to the test just the same. We'll see. Thanks for stopping by, JJ. Good luck with your grow. Peace

Actually I have to correct my original post. A friend of mine ordered my seeds for me and ordered 20 Himalayan Gold from GHS and 10 Cheese. I split the Cheese order so I got 5 of them as did he. The problem is, he ordered the Cheese seeds from Big Budda instead of GHS so my "test" as it would be is limited to the HG. From what I understand GHS got the strain from Budda.
On another note, the seeds were originally ordered through Seed Boutique but there was evidently a problem with the credit card so the order was done through another UK company. Out of respect for Gypsy I won't mention the company here but they were ordered last Wednesday, we got the shipping confirmation on Friday and be damned, I got a call last night that he had received them yesterday (Tuesday). Unbelievable...UK to the southeastern US in 5 days....I picked them up today and will start germing them tonight. Got my camera ready but can't find my USB cord. Worst case I'll order another one. Gotta be here somewhere..... |

I started germinating tonight using the paper towel method. 20 Himalayan Gold and 5 Cheese (BB). Both are in a tupperware container in a warm area. Took 2 pics but still can't find my damn usb cord.
Gentlemen, it's time to get my grow on...Spring '08, ya gotta love it.

Needing to update this thread. Out of 20 Himalayan Gold beans, I dropped one in the floor and never found it, the other 19 germed with no probs whatsoever and are doing very well. All have shed their seeds and have their first set of leaves. Looking great and I'm damn happy about the germ rates. All Cheese sprouted too. Thats 24/24. Not shabby at all.

Thanks for stopping by, Jack! Yes I am, Sir. Can't ask for more than 100% germ rates. Nice to know you guys are selling fresh seeds. On another note, I did have to order another cord for my camera so I'll be able to take pictures as soon as it gets here. As usual my old cord will probably show up as soon as the new one gets here....I'm REALLY looking forward to seeing how your HG does at 36 degrees here in the eastern US of A. What can I expect out of this strain outdoors, Jack? Growth patterns, height, etc?

100% Germ
I popped 15 HG and had 100% Germination a short while ago.
Nice, large seeds. I was happy. Germination occured very fast as well. Most had germinated within 36 hours (including soak in water for 12), and had 100% emergence within a week. |
