DP Blueberry all CFL Grow
I am posting this grow to show others the true power of CFL's. After reading a couple of articles that gave poor info on fluoros, I decided to post this grow to show the proper ways to use CFLs and the results you can achive. I started 5 DP regular Blueberry seeds and they all cracked yesterday. Here they are at day 1. There in a mix of 70/30 coco and perlite. They will be fed canna nutes and are currenty under 23w blue spectrum cfl. I will post through harvest.

Hey Green Street! I'm reserving my seat for this thread, it sounds like some fun for sure. When people say you can't do something, there's nothing better to prove 'em horribly wrong. Grow on brotha'!!

I'm with you on that one GIS. I think I just might try the CFL thing myself. I'm working on a small budget right now and thought that I had to go MH or HPS to get good results. Well after reading a couple posts on CFL's I am rethinking that theory. I can get the fixtures and bulbs for $18 with tax so I can buy 4 of these for the price of one mh or hps. Not that I would need that many but the option is there for me. I look forward to your updates Greensheet. I definately would like to know more about your setup!

The set up I have is cheap and simple. I have a 20" x 20" x 30" box I bought at the UPS Store for $8 I use to germ and veg the plants in. I have 2 blue spectrum 23w cfls which I hang from the top. All my CFLs are bought at HD and I have sockets with 6ft cords which I hang above the plants so I can easily adjust the height. The plants are started in clear 16oz cups. I use clear because you can check root growth without disturbing the plants. When the plants are ready for flowering, they are moved into a closet.
The lights I use for flowering are CFL’s – 1 95w Warm Envirolite and 5 42w warm or red spectrum ( 2700k ) for a total lumen output of 16500. All the lights have a built in ballast. I like these lights because they don’t give off much heat and I can position the bulbs where I need the most light. You can put these about an inch away from the tops without burning them. The closet measures 18” x 4’ x 5’ and is lined with mylar up to the top. Since I grow in a SOG it gives me a canopy that’s 6’ square with about 2650 lumens per square foot which is plenty of light if positioned correctly. I have some reflectors which I made by covering pieces of cardboard with mylar and use them like hoods directing all the light down on the canopy. HIDs are more powerful and energy efficient, and also give off more heat, bulky and unforgiving to a novice grower like myself. While there is more work involved with CFLs, you can grow high quality bud from seed to weed with CFLs. I do all my grows in 70/30 coco and perlite and use canna coco liquid nutes. Here are some pics showing examples. GS |

Day 6 @ 20/4. I checked the plants today and saw the tap roots made their way down to the bottom of the cups. Planting in the clear cups makes this easy to check without disturbing the plants. I transplanted them today into 6" pots. They will be vegged for 2 -3 weeks in these pots and will be tranplanted into their final pots when they go 12/12. Their still under 23w blue cfl and I will add 1 more in a couple of days. Their getting canna coco nutes and I am using Rhizotonic and Canazym for supplements. I removed 1 plant from the grow due to poor growth.
