bubbler water level?
Im messin around with this bubbler I built and I an confused about the proper water level that is recommended in this set up? I've read were its 1" below the bottom of the net pot.The reason im asking is because on my set up I transplanted the clone a little high up in the net pot because of the size of the net pot and I dont see the possibility the water ever touching the peat pellot if the level is 1' under the bottom of the net pot.My water level is 2' above the net pot and the bubbles are barely touching the peat pellots.I noticed a little white powdery stuff on the leaves and the peat pellots are always sogging wet.I know im doing sumthing wrong here but i dont know what. Can anyone point me in the right direction for this to werk. Thanks.

Hey Chorse! --
![]() I have been working with RW Cubes with my seedlings and clones so far, and I always strive to have the water level just below where the cube is in the NetPot. The splash effect of the Air Stone will wet the cube {peat pellot in your case} sufficiently to entice your roots on their outward journey. Most times, I will have the water level rising above the bottom of the NetPot at first, before the roots emerge from the NetPot itself, and then I will drop it to where it is just touching the bottom of the NetPot once the roots are into the reservoir. I, for one, do not subscribe to the "Air Space" between the bottom of the NetPot and the water method. I like to keep all of my roots wet, and not leave the 1/2" - 1" gap between the bottom of the pot, and the top of the water... Hope that helps! |

Ive often been wondering about that gap BuzzBob,
![]() I have been having the res water sit at 1"-2 inches below the main root stems and the plant is ok, but ive been wondering should i raise my levels?... as im mediumless i have no rock wool cube to measure water level with, the roots just come straight off the main stem that pokes out of a bot of pool noodle... any advice on water levels for that situation? cheers big ears ![]() |

Hey Leeroy! --
![]() Well, I certainly do not position myself as being an expert in these matters... {Always leave "wiggle-room" in case someone else wants to offer up an alternative opinion!} But I, too, read all that about dropping the water level to leave a gap between the bottom of the NetPot, and the water. And then I read a few lengthy threads {not sure where now} which contradicted that, stating that it is not necessary. And in fact, can appear to cause some issues! I, personally, was seeing my roots "hardening off" in that space, before I stopped maintaining the levels there. Not to an extreme, since they are well sprayed with rising bubbles. But they were browning some compared to the root mass in the bucket. This was the same as the observations in the threads I mention, where ultimately the conclusion was that keeping the water just touching/splashing the bottom of the NetPot is preferrable. A conclusion I too have now come too, as my roots are all looking much better since changing over... Hope that helps!!! |
