Marijuana exempt from smoking ban

2008

The ban on smoking in cafés and restaurants from July 1 will not apply to the smoking of pure marijuana or cannabis, health minister Ab Klink has told MPs.

The ban falls under the tobacco laws and does not apply to tobacco-free products, Klink said.

Replying to questions from the Labour party, the minister confirmed that mixing tobacco with soft drugs in 'coffee shops' (where cannabis products can be bought over the counter) will not be permitted from July 1.

Staff in these coffee shops have the same right as workers in other cafes to a tobacco-free working environment, said Klink

that's good news...tobacco sucks big time....

now we should see a major change in the way Europeans smoke cannabis......smaller joints, one hitter pipes and other more efficient, cleaner and economical ways of smoking will take over from the usual big paper jays half full or more of cigarette tobacco.

it's going to be tough for the first 6 months or so for those who are addicted to smoking bud or hash with tobacco....kicking nicotine is tough, but it can be done if you put your mind to it and is definitely worthwhile (I know, I smoked cigs and tobacco/grass joints for decades..until I got smart)....apart from the well known health aspects of being tobacco free, you will begin to really taste and appreciate the subtle flavours and smells of cannabis that your tobacco laden senses missed before...and that's just the beginning..walking up 5 flights of stairs will be easy, not breathtaking!

another thing the tobacco ban will do is eventually improve the quality of commercial bud in Europe.....as you can get away with over-ferted crops full of insecticides and other chemicals if you are selling to every buyer who smokes with a large paper joint containing a whole cigarette's worth of tobacco (that is then smoked w/o a filter!!) as it masks bad tasting and poor burning cannabis.....but smoke that shitty grown cannabis by itself like just about everyone does in the US (and elsewhere by who are not addicted to nicotine and Marlboro country) and you'd screw your face up at the effects, taste and burn of some of the badly grown commercial bud and crappy imported hash in Europe....

So yes, the Coffeeshops in Amsterdam sets the WHOLE trend for Europe's way of smoking canabis? Doubt it very much. Why don't you direct some of your tobacco-anger towards tobacco homepages and let people enjoy cannabis the way they want?

Verbose wanker extraordinaire indeed.

Its nice(NOT) to see the members here get in bed with the government telling people what and how to smoke.
You should be ashamed of yourselves IMO

i hope that is heavy sarcasm. most tobacco is way worse for you healthwise than most cannabis. the only reason i say "most" is so someone cant prove me wrong

surprising to see some rational thinkin still prevails, after a coupla stories over the past week or so, i'd started to worry the end was nigh for the dam scene. Bit pish for the hash smoker as not everyone enjoys the instant caning of a bong hit or vape, i'll miss the joints and i always thought mixing hash in a grass joint detracted from the savouring of the resin. In attempt to get my gf to stop moaning i've pledged to try and give up tobacco after 420 so if i can't smoke in coffeeshops after june it should help i guess...now all we have to worry about is the right-wing makin life so hard for growers/coffeehops that the whole scene disappears dark days indeed

It's great new's about Dam but...Self righteous Ex-Tobacco Smoker's bore me senseless,Do I have to put up with it here as well as from outside the Canna community. I gave up tobacco for pure spliffs years back but I am neither expecting a medal for it or Preaching to everyone about it. Let people smoke how they want to smoke.
I don't like smoking from Dirty broken bottleneck's but I didn't tell the Zulu's that when I smoked with them because I am not Rude and Bad mannered...Nor did I tell Morrocans not to smoke Thick paper extra strong Tobacco/Kif joint's as It is how they like to do it! Live and let live! And I have been to Malawi for a few months in the 90's and most people I smoked with smoked Tobacco and weed spliff's as did people all over Southern Africa so whats with the Euro-Bashing. IT IS SOOOO TIRESOME! Take the chip off your shoulder and Roll a nice pure one! Not all European's are Dutch and don't all smoke with tobacco Anyhoo..And many can taste Bad Chemmy weed with or without Tobacco. JBo (A non-preaching Ex-Tobacco smoker)

well said londinium. Then there was the time i passed round a spliff in San Diego and some wank gave it "Oh dude he's from europe they think they have a god-given right to mix tobacco in their joints"...each to their own i say, and if it's good enough for a moroccan it's good enough for me.
