Whats a good portable GH? Are they even good to use?
Would a wooden frame and Poly work better for a novice than going w a greenhouse?

$320 delivered from home depot...its the 9' x 9' flowerhouse and that thing is tough. checkout my flowerhouse of stash threads and you'll see. in 2 years ive probably done 10lbs in the 'off season'.

I'm not around here much, in this forum, so I don't know if alot of people do it, but you can put up quick hoop houses with pvc and poly.

First, you have to give yourself firm footings for the pvc to stand in, by either using a sledgehammer to pound in galvanized pipe, or dig holes and bury them in concrete. Make sure the pipe is big enough to fit the pvc size you use. Then you can just stick ling pieces of pvc in them, and bend them over to make your hoop-house. Throw your poly over it, flod it over at the ends and clamp it with spring clamps. With the ends, you can just cut a couple pieces of poly to fit, and make it long anough you can bury it or throw rocks on the bottom.

I'm looking at doing my first greenhouse grow this winter, and I'm planning on building a cold frame with 2x12s and poly. It's going to be facing south, and the top will be made of the poly and will be at an angle. The back will be 2' high (2 2x12s), while the front will only be 1' high. That way I can maximize the sunlight coming in.

It's going to be pretty small, just 2' by 3'. My plan, though, is to grow through the winter (we have mild winters here), so I'll be flowering clones immediately, like with a SOG indoor grow. Based on what some folks have said the strain I'm using will work well for that style of growing and will get to be only about 1' tall. I'll be putting them in with four clones per square foot, so I should end up with a carpet of 1' tall plants with big top colas.

I think they are great and have been growing with them for 4 years now and love them. I am not handy so making my own isn't an option. The flowerhouse series are the best made of the portables IMHO but you can pick up a real inexpensive GH on ebay for around $40 (6'x4'x8') which isn't bad as a starter and depending on your climate could last 2-3 years.

I forgot to mention that if frost is a concern in your area in Oct. you can also use bubble wrap which also helps insulate.
