Training the Geisha

Thanks to the H3ad's for allowing me to test their new Geisha strain. :

This log will document the training of 5 Geisha seeds. They will follow the same rigorous training path as a real Japanese geisha.

A short interlude for some history of the Japanese geisha.

Geisha are Japanese entertainers trained in traditional arts of Japan, they are NOT prostitutes.

'Geisha Girls' is the name used to describe Japanese prostitutes by American GI's during WWII.

I would equate 'Geisha Girls' with crappy seeded brick bud. Yea it'll get ya high, but just like a hooker, you might end up with something you didn't want (headache).

'Geisha' on the other hand, conveys beauty, quality, and refinement.

The girls go through 3 steps of training before they are considered true Geisha; shikomi, minarai, and maiko.

We are starting at the first stage, shikomi, where we will start the girls off and train by making or breaking the girls at an early age.

Here's the seeds we received for training.

Five were chosen

and mercilessly dropped into water

then given a towel to rest until they 'come alive'

the next step of their training is when they are stuck in the dirt. The soil mix is pretty hot, probably a lot hotter than I should have used.

Day 01 - Veg

Day 02 - Veg

Geisha5 was either greatly affected by the hot soil and/or it is also a runt. I was going to cull it but it seems to be putting out some normal leaves now.

Got busy with real life and didn't take any pics for a bit. Fast forward 10 days.

Day 12 - Veg

The seedlings are currently in 3" pots under a single 42w cfl bulb. They will stay there until they are transplanted to 6" pots at which time they will be moved under a 150hps to veg for a bit longer. Eventually they will be flowered under a 600w hps.

The plants have grown a bit and Geisha5 appears to be getting over the initial hot soil shock and is putting out normal growth.

We will conclude the first stage of the shikomi training with the task of long term unattendedness with limited hydration.

The girls will be transplanted to 6" containers and set in rubbermaid deep square takealongs (small water reservoirs) and be left alone for 9 days.

I added some soilmoist water crystals to the soil I was going to be using for transplanting. Once transplanted, each 6" pot will be watered and the rubbermaid takealongs allowed to fill about 1.5". This will give the plants about 2/3 of a cup of water as a reservoir.

Here's the girls before transplanting.

Day 17 - Veg

Geisha1

Geisha2

Geisha3

Geisha4

Geisha5

Here they are after transplanting.

Geisha1&2

Geisha3&4

Geisha5

Hopefully they will all pass (ie live) this final phase of shikomi training.

All the plants made it 9 days without additional watering.

I didn't have enough room under the cfl for all five plans, so Geisha1 was stuck in a bathroom with 2 cfls about 3 feet above the plant and it also got some abient daylight. The bathroom was kept cooler so the plant didn't really stretch , it just grew slowly and is now noticeably smaller than the other four.

There was some leaf scorching where Geisha3 & Geisha4 grew up and touched the cfl.

You can see the scorching in the middle of the plant. That was the top of the plant when I came back. I kept them under the cfl for another couple days and then moved them under a 150hps, where they will stay until they can be flowered in another 3 weeks.

Here is what they currently look like.

Day 32 - Veg

Geisha5

Clones will be taken sometime before they are flowered.
