LA's Casey Jones
This is my first grow, the culmination of 6 months to be honest. I started in Sept of last year with Casey Jones seedlings. I originally started with 13 seedlings. I had a slew of issues including gnats, severe heat, and just noob mistakes in general like overwatering, underwatering, and nute burn. Basically the whole gauntlet a new grower can encounter. By November I was down to 3 plants that still were only a few inches tall with probably 10 sets of nodes missing off the bottom. Around this time I "hit my stride", fixed the temps, fixed the issues I was having with what turned out to be poor dirt etc. I purchased Satori and Blockhead seedlings off the bay(im quick to the draw on the bay!) prior to this because I was fairly confident I was just better of starting over with another strain. When I finally fixed all the issues I was having, I used Head's perlite cloner(really awesome btw) and took clones of the 3 female CJ I had remaining. By this time I had allowed them to veg to around 1 foot, so I put them into flower Jan 2nd 2008.
On to the stats of the grow! I am growing in 45 gallon rubbermaids(CFL) using some of the excellent examples in the micro grow forum as my template. This is due to avoiding the issues I would have to go through if I were to us HPS lighting such as heat etc. This is due to location and will eventually change. I wasn't expecting much out of this grow, I just wanted to get it finished and move on to a new one after building a better rubbermaid/CFL system. Therefore, I quickly slapped this grow box together using 2 power strips with 2 42 watt CFLs in each for a total of 168 watts. Using a negative exhaust system with a 120mm fan exhausted out by a 6 inch vent. Immediately I had the issue of immense burning on the fan leaves as the bulbs were verticle and I vegged too big for this setup due to circumstance. I've employed a pretty intense system of LSTing where I completely bent the 2 taller phenos onto opposite sides of where their respective pots were placed; the short pheno was kept in the middle. Pots were only 1 gallon by the way. Nutes used were the fox farm line(tigerbloom/bigbloom). They are now on day 56 and doing well much to my surprise, considering these ladies were nearly dead 3 months ago. I am planning on feeding them water just for the last 5 days instead of the usual 14 day flush that seems to be popular in an effort to pack on some extra weight. I will probably take them at day 70. On to the pics... Casey Jones #1 Casey Jones #2 Casey Jones #3 |

Damn, that #3 is a keeper for sure! Do they all smell the same?

When I run these again I will make a less biased comparison of the 3 I have. It is really hard to tell what 1 and 2 would have turned in to giving the same conditions as the short #3. The 3rd was in the middle and was allowed to grow straight up next to the lights, where as the 2 taller phenos ended up lanky in some respect which could have merely been caused by the fact that they were mostly below the light due to the LST.
The smell... well, it is pretty hard to describe. They all smell similar, just with different undertones. I would say #1 has a slight fruit/sweet smell to it. #2 almost has a coffee/fruity undertone to it, and #3 has more spice in it. |

It should also be noted that I had lost a LOT of leaves due to yellowing for the first 20 or so days of flowering. Next time around I will continue feeding N for atleast 2 weeks into flower. I fixed this by foliar feeding grow big up until day 28 or so then proceeded normally. This being my first grow, I am really curious as to what the yield will be...14 or so more days to bulk up a bit too. Considering the bad times they went through from the start, I will be satisfied with anything. I am considering a staggered harvest to ensure everything is finished.

Nice. Good work there... I really Cant believe those are with CFL's. Done very well, even considering your mistakes. Mistakes happen for a reason, But hey..... now u know.
Im willing to bet by loosing those lower nodes earlier it helped you out unknowingly. u gotta trim those lower nodes, especially running low light. Those lower sites would be all popcorn low yielding low trich buds. In turn, the plant spent the energy to the sites that really count, high areas with adequate lighting. You did not loose anything, u only gained in all areas ,imo. Definitely wait a few more runs for each clone. Then decide which plant is best for u. You can be surprised, a clone that was once rated #2 or 3, can now surpass what was thought to be #1. Love it. Keep up the good work. B-safe |
