White Rhino Fem - Finally got some pics

Got these beans last year from DG to do a test grow. A 10 pack of GH Fem'd White Rhino. I have a pretty limited amount of space to work with so I am only able to effectively do 5. I wanted to give them a fair go without the hassle and stress of cramming.

My camera is currently down for the count but all I've got right now are 4 sprouts just starting on their initial blade leaves.

You heard right, 4/5. Probably my bad - I had some hangups and had to put this off a while. Not really all too fresh now. No one is more disappointed than me as I've been toking mexi brick.

I had used a big grow box that I built to do my previous gardens. Two sections, 4'x2' and 4' in height. This time I've got a new space. A tight little space under the stairwell that's about 5' tall inside. It's around 3'x4' usable space. I used the two 400w hps that ran my two chambers. Instead of pissing around trying to get two reflectors in there, I bolted the two of them together to form one. Bulbs are about 10" apart - end to end. Seems to work well although I'm only using one of them for the time being.

Ventilation is provided via a 250cfm whisperline from panasonic. Nice and quiet and keeps the space about 76f while pulling through my home made carbon can.

The kids were placed in paper towel on the 17th. They only took a couple nights to pop. The 5th just wouldn't budge. At just under 2" each they are now in peat pots getting comfortable in their new medium, peat moss. Used this straight up with a lowryder grow when I was getting the room dialed in and it worked well. Had nice plants with only a couple very minor issues so I can't complain. Good yield too for a mess of lowryders. Over a zip a plant, dried, and I had 8 females out of 20 beans started. They were my own seeds that I produced from JD's stock.

More to follow...

Sorry for the severe lack of updates.

2 have survived and 2 are dead.

One of the dead ones had it's tap cracked when it went into the soil. Thought that it would take off and it did for a week or so, then it just quit growing. The other, I'm not sure what happened. It was doing really well but then one day I noticed it seemed loose in the soil. The leaves all started to curl in really tight to the center of the plant and then it fell over within the next couple days. Stem looked like it rotted right off just below the soil. Not sure what happened.

The two that are doing well are fairly uniform in height. The taller one is just a couple nodes ahead. The lower set of leaves on the taller one started to dry up. Still green, just crunchy and brittle. Wish I had a pic of it, much easier to just look. Checked into the infirmary, but all that really seemed to fit was over watering. I've got a few grows under my belt, but never with these. Didn't really seem to be over watered though, always waited until the next day when the top of the soil dried out to water.

Other than that couple of leaves though they seem to be doing really well. Nice tight nodes and good side branching. Thinking that it's about time to switch them into flowering due to the height restrictions in the space. They're 30 days from going into the paper towel to sprout.

Hopefully I'll be able to get some pics up soon.

Finally got a new camera. Sorry about the shitty pics, I'm still working on it...

Not really having the best of luck with the rhinos. Here's a pic of the what the one plant is doing.

Everything else is really happy on the plant, just not the lowest set of fan leaves. I take one dead set off and it starts on the next set up. The side branches coming off them all seem very healthy though.

This one is doing pretty good. Not too much bullshit, maybe a slight nute deficiency. Planning on feeding them later today.

The one on the right.

Now here's the kicker and where I'm getting confused.

I'm using 90% peat moss mixed with a little perlite. Nothing else other than tap water and 2/3 dosages of GH flora nova. I don't want too much shit in them. The mix has been in my garage in the large tote you see behind the two there. I've got 4 lowryders in there right now and they're doing GREAT. Not a bad leaf on them. WTF?

I understand that different strains will have a higher tolerance and react differently to environmental stress. With the one that fell over (rotted off just below the soil) and now these two, I just don't get it. The one that I damaged as a seedling I'll take full responsibility for.

The space is 80f, good airflow and good exhaust. About 35rh.

Here's the lighting. No, I don't let it touch the wall all the time, just moved it back out of the way.

I've still got another 5 of these that I want to get started but I want to make sure that I've got this fixed before I go ahead with them.

Thanks for your patience and input.

Peat has a very low PH... test your run off. Peat is generally around 5. Start there....

Checked the runoff ppm. Around 1000. Flushed and they're looking a bit better after a few days. I'll get some new pics up here soon.

Really surprised that no one else has chimed in here.

I've got the burn situation under control now. The runoff is right around 400 which isn't too bad considering my water is upwards of 325. The leaves finally quit dying off. Got some new dirt for the next go round. Dropping the peat and going with some quality potting mix.

Here's a few updated pics. They are just 13 days into flower now and I'm starting to see pistils on the tallest of the two. The tallest seems to have quit stretching. Got some decent size to it for being completely stressed out most of it's life. The shorter of the two seems to be a little tighter and bushier. Hardly stretched at all so far. Just got bigger 'round.

It's a girl! Yep, the fem'd beans are holding true so far...

They finally quit doing this shit....

Good side branching. Thinking SCROG next go round.

I had space for 4, a 5th I could have crammed in there. Hopfully it goes better next time around. 4 lowryders in the bucket behind there. About 30 more days for those and I'll be a happy camper - no more brick dope!!!

Whisperline 6" inline and two cheap ass ballasts! This space is under the stair well so it's not the best for trying to use it as garden space.

Just saw this thread. In those first pictures, they sure look over fertilized. Dried up, crunchy leaves-from chem burn- had a similar problem with some White Widows-which is the strain White Rhino is derived from. White Widows are known not to like lots of ferts...
Mine came around after a quick transplant into different soil-and be sure to include some dolomite lime in your mix-acts as a buffer-keeps the PH stable-very important! Would go for bigger pots if possible. One thing though-these babies are tenacious, and will recover if given the chance, even when they are way far gone.
Check out my grow-Green House White Widows and friends-13 days into flower....

Thanks for checkin' in Nav. I'll be a little more on top of things here so watch for updates.

RG - Thanks for the tip. I just got some new dirt for the next go 'round. I've got some lime, so I'll be sure to mix a little in. They are bouncing back pretty nicely. The tallest is starting to show more pistils now. The little one is still a little lagging and it didn't get hit with the burn too bad so I'm not sure if it's just a slow starter or what. Hopefully in the next couple days. How long did you let yours flower out?

If you have burnings try flushing with a mild solution (pH 5.5, EC 0.8-1.0, temp. 20 degrees C) and then wait a few days before fertilizing again.
The White Rhino can take up to 2.5 EC in hydro systems, but in soil you should not go above 1.8 during peak-flowering.

Keep us updated!
