I just got this new 600 watt hps with the Cool Sun reflector from Sunlight supply. I need comments on the best way to vent it. I am sure I can figure it out, but you guys are just to freakin good not to ask.

It is a sealed unit with glass included, the vent connectors are 6".

Okay I am not the expert on the motor's, but another on site will tell you the name brand I am sure, Can Fan, Vortex, and the Elicent all can be attached to the hood on the exhaust port pulling the air across the bulb and out of the grow area. Now one can bring in cool ouside air to the supply side of the hood and now it is sealed and has cool air comming in across the bulb to take out the heat.

If your grow area does not have an exhaust fan, then some leave the intake side open to draw in grow room air across the bulb and exhaust it out via duct work from the grow area.

Now if you are living in a real cold area and need to warm the air up some, bring fresh cold air in across the bulb to heat up and then take an put the exhaust duct in the grow area, I put mine on the floor or blowing down toward's the floor and one can establish a warm grow room temp this way if needed.

Now most all ballast are not air cooled, this will shorten the life of the componet's, so I advise all to put a small fan on the ballast's at least, personally I like to make my own ballast box as they are air cooled and I feel they will last me longer this way.

What size fan to get, on average most say a 265 cfm for it, but it varie's from grower to grower as what is best. I use a 105 cfm A/C fan at the end of my duct line that is attached to the 600's hood. I made an air manifold out of a box, mounted fan one end and put the duct in the other end. The volume of the manifold allow's the fan to operate with out drag yet still move all the air it can. I found a 12" sq box to provide the best air flow from the hood's duct work, this is how I do it, does not make it right nor does it make it wrong, what matter's is it work's for me and my room.

I have a 465 Dayton to exhaust the light. I also have a 200+ I can't remember to exhaust the room if needed, which I probally will because of the demensions of the room 2'x5'x8', it will probally get pretty hot if I don't. That gives me 60 watt psf if I calculate correct. How does all this sound to you? I will probally pull air from the outside of the room over the bulb and then out to the attic. Now I just need to figure out a way to quieten down the fans.
