Very, very nicely done, Big Toke. My hats off to you for sharing this information with all here at ICMag. An exceptionally informative thread. I myself am planning to and will be starting my grow in a soiless mix but you sure have made me think twice about your Bio Buckets. If I move and find more room to work with, I may very well use this system as it sounds so easy to maintain and hassle free. Thanks again for a great thread. All hydro growers need to read this . . in fact, for ALL HYDROGROWERS IT IS A MUST READ!!

Great post!
moving indoors was a real big transition forme and i looked into bio buckets at first, but since there was nothing this hardcore to back them up I sort of wrote them off as something I'd like to try later...and I guess I'll have to make later into sooner now that you've made this thread up!! MAJOR prop to ya Big Toke way to go buddy you really are a bio bucket master! |

Awesome info Big Toke. I am gonna have to biuld a small one to give it a try. I have thought about DWC but did not like the idea of the hassle involved, this is a whole different ballgame. I checked out Petemoss' thread, unreal. Thanks again for takin' the time to put this together! Bonzo

Holy Smokes Big Toke... awesome read.
Your grows are more than impressive... they are amazing. Could you gave me an idea of how many buckets would work under a 1000 HPS? |

I read Hurtback's stuff a year ago over at OG... and thought this was way out of my league. After reading this thread... some bio buckets are in my future for sure.
Are you ready to mentor a few bio-noobs? |

Supp HOG, you hydro moderator you, I saw you drop in last night but was just to tired to respond,……..I think I broke my thinking cap, lol!!
Tap-water vs R/O-water The Bio-Buckets because of it’s non-change-outs of the reservoir builds up a certain amount of decomposing plant matter, which is not a problem because of the Beneficial Bacterium that is already established/colonized in the lava rock, but on the other hand will lower your ph some what, my tap-water ph is 7.0 right out of the sink, after adding nutrients to the system the ph will drop again to about 6.0 when I first fill my Bio-Buckets up I let the system run 24/7 for one to two weeks at 7.0 then put my cutting/cones in the system at 6.0 after a few of weeks in the Bio-System the ph will drop to about 5.5 and after that will even go down to 4.8 but will come back up to about 6.0 in a few weeks. I do not add anything other than nutrients to my Bio-System because by now the system is very much alive!! And the system/beneficial bacterium will make the necessary changes as needed, all you have to do is add nutrients & check on the lights!! I’m sure that you have often heard it said that unless you keep your ph between 5.5 to 6.5 that some of the nutrients will not be available for the plants to use, well that may be true in the ordinary hydro system but it’s not true in the Bio-System……..you can think of the Beneficial Bacterium as hooking up your nutrients on “SEED” thus the explosive massive growth of the Bio-Buckets, the Beneficial Bacterium makes your nutrients very mobile/highly active. So as time goes on the 7.0 ph tap-water is constantly toping off my reservoir with a high ph of 7.0 which helps the system level it’s self out to were it wants to be. Also over time because of the non-change-outs of the system, some of the very small trace elements may come in short supply. If tap-water is used, zinc sulfate and copper sulfate will be added back to the system. The small amounts of zinc and sulfur needed are usually present in the tap-water or as an impurity in the other fertilizer nutrients. HOG I would like to give you more info on or about the R/O water, but being that I have no experience with R/O I would not know how to advise. Thanks for stopping by, hope this helps some what. Rellikbuzz – Thanks for the kind words, and I hope the room becomes available soon. The_Danimal – “something later…..has now become something sooner” that’s pretty cool…..if it’s hardcore your wonting then the Bio-Buckets are for you my friend, thanks for stopping by. |
