Home Affairs Minister Guusje ter Horst thinks that police officers should be barred from using soft drugs while off duty.

31 January 2008

THE HAGUE – Home Affairs Minister Guusje ter Horst thinks that police officers should be barred from using soft drugs while off duty. Drug use can damage the officers' reputation and authority, the minister says.

She is urging police chiefs to introduce a uniform guideline prohibiting police officers from using soft drugs in their free time. Ter Horst wrote this in answer to questions from Freedom party PVV MP Hero Brinkman, which were published on Thursday.

The Amsterdam-Amstelland police force recently set down in its guidelines that officers may not use soft drugs in their free time because they should set an example with their behaviour even while off duty.

Other police forces also enforce regulations regarding soft drug use. Officers who violate the regulations can be penalised with disciplinary sanctions.

The minister now wants all forces throughout the country to ban soft drug use by off duty police officers in an attempt to preserve the reputation and authority of the police.

I agree that pigs shouldn't be allowed to smoke when off duty.

They accept the jobs of trying to bust us, and can't have the pleasure of smoking it up every night as well, lol

I thought in Amsterdam they didn't really 'bust' you, at least not like here in the US. Honestly, if a cop smokes a joint every night after work instead of drinking a six-pack, he'll probably be a lot more mellow on the beat, I say let 'em smoke

Hi Aries,

I mean growers not smokers really, and that the pigs are ever more actively busting many growers in the Netherlands.

They can be devious, persistant and corrupt, so why should they be allowed to get high as well! lol

420 Smoking "Authority Figures" are infinitely preferable to non-canna-users. Drinkers who police us are particularly dangerous.

I would prefer anyone with a License to Harass or Kill be a potsmoker rather than a drinker, or a non-user of anything (crusader).

It is obvious that the 420 movement/culture in The Netherlands (and the world, of course) is being persecuted, marginalized, and turned back from any progress made previously.

There is some hope for the USA to elect a person (from the Democratic side of the aisle) who may restore "State Rights" fully. Unfortunately, Ron Paul is out.

Now, we just gotta work on the laws of the States and Counties, which are increasingly persecuting and marginalizing any previous political gains.... Up for vote in Mendocino County is a REPEAL of Measure G.... This is not good. It may occur, and take us back to the original state laws.. Our local society would suffer..

And the Circle continues.

Anyone who wants the job of Policing, should be disallowed from performing it.

nah ron paul isn't out yet still have hope, they've not even gone through half the states yet, the media just want you think he doesn't have a chance in hell. if you believe them then they'l be right, if u like Ron Paul Americans then please vote for him! it's the worst thing to not believe in him and defeats the object of the electoral system, don't think it will be safe to go for the one you think has a better chance or the next alternative.

i personally see this ban for the bacon smoking ganja as a bad step, it's one step further to the eventual ban from smoking it by anyone.

I DO NOT want a ban on Police smokers!!!! I'm going to sue the paper for slander!

Anyway, I think if a policeman smokes he will be more likely to turn a blind eye to other smokers so let em pigs fly.
