if your state doesnt recognize med mar its not likely that you'll find a dr willing to recommend it. even if you did, an employer in your state would not be obligated to recognize it until lawmakers or voters in your state make an exemption for med mar.

I agree with MyBeans but would like to add .If you quit now really doesnt matter, this is why the hair test stinx.
It will show that you smoked back to alot longer than a piss test would.I think up to a year ago they will be able to know you smoked,so you would have to have been stopped smoking a long time for it to come up negative.Or make sure yer head is always shaved smoothy bald so maybe they will just have to piss test you.

You might get by with a prescription for Marinol which tests the same as cannabis unless an advanced GC/MS is done. Your employer may not "allow" employees to use Marinol (on or off duty) but it may be worth a try. You wouldn't have to actually fill the prescription and use your cannabis instead then when you test positive at least you have a legitimate prescription.
To prove to an employer that one is NOT impaired at work I'd recommend the saliva test for THC (not metabolite). This test will only be positive with about 4 hours after smoking as opposed to the hair test which will light up the chem panel for many weeks. Yours, Dr Jay ps: could you shave your head? :-)

In most States employment is more or less entirely up to the employer. Certainly, you're right to ask how an employer could "discriminate" based upon legally prescribed medication but they do it all the time and get away with it.
My wife is in the exact position you are. She works for a large firm that contracts with the Federal Government. Like many, if not most, employers they have to comply with the Federal "Drug Free Work Place Act" that gives the employer wide discretion. In my wife's case she had to first pass a pre-employment physical and is then subject to random testing. She has a prescription for Marinol AND has a legitimate medical recommendation that is supposed to be valid in our State of California. Despite this employers (and landlords for that matter) can exercise the prerogative of denying employment (or housing) based on the use of cannabis or it's analoges like Marinol. Not all discriminate which is why it's worth finding out about but if they do it's a very tough situation that could not only effect her current employment but future as well. It is NOT fair nor right nor logical nor compassionate but it does reflect the culture war being waged against cannabis. Just like in your case cannabis is the most effective and the safest medication for her medical condition and just like you she is facing loss of employment or career if she uses that medication. We have a long way to go in this war. Yours, dr. jay

At will employment jobs can fire you for any reason, if you have a perscription that is legal, then you would be able to show it your employer and not be fired, ive never heard of someone getting fired for some doctor prescribed medication
