Twin Motavation seedlings

Hi guys!

First I must say, I am really impressed with the forums! I'm looking forward to ask you all heaps of stupid noob-questions over the next few weeks. if I may?

This is my first real try on a grow, and already have one! Three of my seedlings have twins (like, two seedlings from one bean), and I wonder if this is normal, or if I should snip one of them? They are different, one is one large and one tiny, two of them are identical, and the third is somewhere in between.

Guess i'll just wait it out and see what happens, but i've never seen it before?

I know... i'll get a camera

Svart

Congrats Svartsinn! Yes I have seen this twin "gene" in the Motavation line. Gerrit has also mentioned it to me on many times. This past grow I had 4 sets of Twins in my Motavations. I did have several outstanding females from this group.

As Gerrit has recommended to me in the past, you should try to seperate the twins as soon as possible. This would prevent the roots from getting entagled with one another-- which could prevent one of the seedlings from becoming stunted.

Please Note: when seperating the twins from one another, hold on to the cotyledons and not from the stem. This is because, if you do crush a leaf the seedling would still survive verses crushing the stem would would kill the seedling. Also, I would moisten the soil to ease the seperation of the young seedlings. Some pics would be helpful!

Cheers, Mosca Negra

Thank you!
The separation was fairly easy but some of the roots where alot shorter than others, but still i got 11 seedlings from 10 beans, good count!

Are you growing in coco SS? By the looks of your gallery pics you are growing in coco with clay balls! Also you said you had 3 sets of twins-- did you seperate the other two sets of twins?

Actually it is soil and leca. I had to get them growing for as little as possible. I already had the soil, and the bio-bizz line nutes.

All three twins where separated, but I lost one that was too small, two are really small and three are fine.

Well see how they turn out in a couple of days..

I like using Thrive Alive to help the seedling bounce back from transplanting. You did pretty well w/losing only one! Good work!!

I believe so Mosca! To bad it takes time, but something good happens to those who wait?

It seems like the twin believed to be lost, has done a remarkable return, so now i got 6 healthy racers (the single ones) and 3 happy pairs of twins. Three of them are really small, but they seem happy, so i'll keep them for now.

As for mediums, I have been snoopin around the forums and learned a whole lot. I will make myself some good bubblers!! At least for veg/flower, but for cloning as well I think. It was the super-duper hydro-tutorial by Dr.D that made it clear

So i guess i'll just keep them in the soil for now, till I can take clones from them so I can check their sex.

As soon as I get my cam back, i'll post some pics. And in the middletime i'll order myself a airpump and some tubing

I've finally taken some photos of the twins and the rest!

This is the smallest of them, I didn't think the tiny one would survive!

Heres another twin

This is one of the singles... non-twin, hehe

And at last a group-shot. The singles at the left, and the six twins at the right!

They are all having a splendid time, basking in the sun. Maybe a week or two before I can take the first clones?
