Bush Doctor's attitude is not uncommon in Amsterdam... understandable, but illegal... they can't force you to buy drugs, get real... you have to ask for the menu before they are allowed to show it...

Smokey's is the worst for locals... if they see you arriving on your bike (no rental) or hear you talking Dutch, they won't allow you in...

Personally, I don't care... if they don't want my business I go somewhere better... true, I don't buy their drugs... but I do like to give some tip, unlike most Dutch...

The same trick as Icysurfer's has worked for me a few times... I remember getting kicked out of a hotel's business centre once... for smelling like weed... I had only 1 gram of Sage'nSour in my pocket... then I sat down in the lobby and the waiter started sniffing around... I ordered some drink and gave him €5 tip... he got a smile on his face, acting real humble... and gave his best service... the prick!

Thanks for the advice. Anyway I've been to the Bushdoctor last summer and I can tell that I did not appreciate it. I bought 2gr of Jack Herer and had a coup of tea in the first floor. I didn't like the service (a bit arrogant), nor the weed (expensive and hard to keep a pure joint lighted up for more than 5 seconds) and not even the place itself which was a bit dirty and asking to be refurbished.

But hey, nothing better than the wortels in Haarlem, right?

If an American can, they will find that the right c'shop or hilltop, for that matter. For Netherlander locals it may not be so simple to just go have a coffee or tea in a coffee shop, and I think we underestimate this...Imagine if you went into Starbucks and they told you that you couldn't have your Mocha Latte without buying something else. That's like your dealer telling you that you can only have the coke if you buy some herb, too. Not that one wouldn't, anyways. hehe

Point is...the situation is mounting in Amsterdam and Holland, as the EU countries are opening up their internal borders, questions which many are afraid to ask are mounting.

The situation shows this...shops weary of non-smoking locals...private organizations formed whose only concern is to "check-up" on what's going on in the shops and advise to legislative branches of the gov. Instead, there is no organization that is checking the quality of the cannabis in these shops; is it really organic, were there pesticides used... search "the green avalanche" on youtube for more info.

No need to get worked up and cancel your plane ticket I live many borders away from such an area and would not step foot there, because as tenfoot said we got the good stuff at home. Why, bother.
