do you think there is a market for a stealthy auto darkining greenhouse?
i have been researching this for a while now and ive come up with a design that from the outside would'nt look like a greenhouse at all- it would look like a shed made from white poly panels that look like opaque white vinyl - yet they allow ample sunlight through.
i'm wanting to run ads for the kit, but i'm wondering what kind of responce it would recieve. it would be aprox. 10' x 12', and would cost less than $2000 us. it will have all the materials except for the 2x4's. it will have an electric curtain that can be set on a timer to regulate the photoperiod so several crops a year could be grown. a larger model could be separated into a flower side/ w an auto timed shade, and a veg side, with no shade. what do you think? do you see a need for this? would you buy one? |

hey DJ,
the closest i have to a diagram is the way i described it in this thread:https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=78037 i'm only in the design stage right now, researching, and thinking. basically, three sides, n, w, & e, will be opaque white vinyl. and the south side and roof will be solexx.(which looks just like white vinyl but is translusent). there will be an automatic roll up door on tracks (8-10 ft wide & 8ft long) that will be on a timer, and it will completly block out the sun when closed. but i am going to build one for this season, and i;ll keep ya'll informed. |

I set up a rig to block out the sun for my first greenhouse. I got an aluminum pipe--cut a strip out down the center of the pipe. I made some stands out of angle iron that went on both main sides of the greenhouse and anchored in the ground. The stands had bearings that hold the pipes. I attached a tarp with screws inside the strip cut out from the aluminum pipe (this pipe spools up the tarp). Leading from the opposite side of the tarp are ropes that go over the greenhouse to the stand on the other side that has another smaller pipe (that spools up the rope.) The motors that power the system came from agriculture equipment (2 auger wagon electric tarp motors). I had timers set up on both electric motors for when to operate. Along the roof of the greenhouse was a narrow strip of aluminum sheet that the rope rubbed against. The system worked great and I was able to get two complete cycles in. I gave up on this 2 cycle method though because you can get better yield out of one cycle of some monsters with less overall work.
