Lavazza - Crema y gusta. My favorite!
I also like Illy...it's a little overpriced & not as good as Lavazza. Check out 1stincoffee.com. They have great prices on Lavazza espresso pods. They are single shot pods for an espresso machine. Makes my morning coffee super easy. I use a Starbucks Barista (just a rebranded saeco if I'm not mistaken). It does great. I think it gets about 8-10 bars of pressure. Perfect would be about 13 bars but it still does a great job.

Coffee has to be drunk within seconds of the grinding for top quality so i would always recommend buying a grinder and doing it for yourself. I quite like some of the Guatemalan types out there, they are quite rich in flavour but can sometimes be a bit bitter.
Commercially i like the Nero Coconut Latte. |

I've always enjoyed African coffees. Very well rounded. Latin American coffees are a little mild for my liking and Euro coffees(the basic ones..French, Italian) are really not my cup of tea(or coffee, I guess). Always been a big fan of Ethiopian. Even Indonesian stuff is pretty good. I think I remember Starbucks offering an aged Sumatra(indonesian) a while back. If you could get an African peaberry variety, I know I'd consider it a solid Christmas gift.

lavazza and illy and the other italian coffees are pretty good, escpecially for mass produced pre-ground coffee, but the best you'll get are locally roasted, unground beans from any nearby coffee shop (if you've got one around that's not starbucks...
)I prefer darkers roasts generally, usually African or South Pacific ones, but all coffee is good. The best coffee I've ever had is from Gimme! Coffee in Ithaca, NY...I'm pretty sure you can order online from them, but im not going to post the site, because I'm not sure if I'm allowed to or not. Should be easy to find on your own, though. The thing with good coffee, though, is that unless you've got the equipment and knowledge to brew the perfect cup, it won't taste that much better than any other coffee if its brewed in a crappy coffee maker.

Funk is on the money. You really have to know how to pull a good shot. It has to be ground in a burr grinder preferably, leveled right, tamped with the correct amount of pressure, hot H2O has to be applied for the right amount of time, at the right temp, right pressure, etc.
The best approach is an idiot proof one. You can go to coffeegeek.com to learn some more. I also share funks preference for roasts as well. The darker full bodied roasts are my faves. South Pacific in particular.

Thanks for the website Nubie. I just got a Saeco Aroma espresso maker for my birthday and this site is exactly what I needed. I am a mocha junkie.

I don't drink coffee, but I heard of this Kopi Luwak coffee, which is supposed to be the bee's knees.
A small cat like creature called a Civet, (lives in Indonesia) eats the outside of the coffee beans. The beans pass right through it's digestive system undamaged where they are picked up off the forest floor and washed. The Civet only chooses the ripest bean pods to eat, ensuring the beans are of the best quality and therefore one of the best coffees. Here's more info: https://www.animalcoffee.com/ $110 for half a pound ![]() And a link to the process of making it: https://www.animalcoffee.com/process.php

You know, I don't really know if I'd take my favorite coffee in a shot. Always been a fan of a press due to it's simplicity & affordability. You can even get a decent creme on a press. If I were to get some folks some good coffee for the holidays, I'd get em an assortment of 4 1/2lb beans(not ground....definitely whole bean) and an 8 cup press or something.

It depends on what type of brew you like..I like strong coffee, so any of the Sumatra territory beans are excellent..
Starbucks has very good WHOLE bean Sumatra, but Ebay has some private roasters...look for beans from Sumatra or Boka (i think thats how it's spelled) All beans grown at high alt. ie the mountains are very good, it's up to the roaster to bring out the beans best flavors.. If you want a weaker coffee go with Haw. Kona. just not bold enough for me... be safe
