~ Biddy's Sister (grow-along) Thread ~

I thought I would start this thread for all those people who were lucky enough to receive Biddy's Sister freebies recently, so we can all post up our grows in one place. This can be a place to document and discuss our progress with these genetics.

Everyone is welcome to join in and share their experiences, and hopefully this thread will also be useful to Gerrit so that he can evaluate the results of his work.

.............................. .............................. .............................. .............................. .............................. ...................

I started a 5 pack a short while ago and now I have 5 healthy seedlings about 10 cm in height. The seeds germed 100% and were very vigorous. The small seedlings surprised me with a strong initial stretch, but now they have tight inter-node spacing and wide indica type leaves. Already there is a pungent smell on the stems which suggests to me that they will be strong smelling plants.

Yesterday I received another 5 pack of Sister which I immediately put into paper towel. All of these will be going outdoors when they are strong enough. (location is South Australia)

I hope some more people will join in soon...

Well, the second batch of 5 beans I started are taking a lot longer to germinate for some reason. Finally three have cracked, I am hopeful for the rest.

Hi Ezra,

Thanks for starting this thread.
There should be plenty of people that have grown or are holding on to these seeds by now since there where spread approx 2000 sample packs total on various hemp-fairs and trough retailers.

My last one came down at the (very) end of October so they where later than expected (partly caused by the bad weather).
They got a bit bigger than predicted as well, but that is not a bad thing imo.
It will take me at least another month before I can give a proper write up, but I will ad some random pictures to this thread soon.

About the lower germ rate on your second batch, did they come from the same source?
They can only come from the same batch (there is only one at the moment) and are exactly one year old now so they should be at peak germination level/rate.
Maybe some got a little cracked in the mail?
Another reason might be that you have a lower temp now as before so they take a few more days.
Otherwise I don't have a clue, they where all checked/selected even though they are freebees, so should give 100%.

Lastly, they do smell quite strong, but it's a very pleasant sweet aroma.
In fact, even my neighbours complimented on the lovely aromas drifting there way, and they don't smoke.

Will you be growing them indoors, or are you in the better part of the world where it's always sunny?

I have two of these Biddy's Sister sample packs (thanks Gerrit) which I'm saving for outdoors next year. I have noticed that temps play a huge part in seed germination, if it's colder, they take longer.

Its not really a problem as far as I am concerned, I would prefer them to get a bit bigger actually. I have a feeling they will do very well. I am looking forward to the pictures from your grow. Were they more or less Sensi-Star dominant than you expected/hoped?

yes, both from seedbay. Only difference was that the first batch had been stored in the freezer for some time before germination. Perhaps the change in temperature stimulated the seeds to germinate faster, not sure of the biological mechanisms involved. I would think that because the seeds are dry, there would be no metabolic activity, but perhaps the temperature change somehow affects germination. I understand that freezing of seeds is part of the natural cycle of many seed-plant species.

Anyways, it looks like 4/5 have germinated now. It was just a lot slower.

excellent, I love strong smelling plants. It wont be an issue, because the location where they are to be grown is quite remote.

South Australia is where I am. This is the start of the peak outdoor season here. We have very intense sun and heat in the summer, lots of uv as well, very dry heat. The main restriction on the length of the season for me is the when the first rain starts on autumn. Its not extremely heavy rain, but because its still very warm, it seems to promote bud-rot. How mold resistant is the Sister?

cheers, Ez

Biddy's Sister pictures

As promised, some BS pictures

Playing hide and seek with Corina

I had some mold after 2 weeks of rain in September, but after I had harvested the 2 most affected and cleaned up the others it did not become a big problem (no plant in my garden was completely without mold this year, even my roses where covered in milldew in Juli already).

Some more random pictures

excellent work!

thanks for posting those up. They did get huge, love the massive stem. I am not expecting mine to get that big unfortunately. When did you sprout them and when were the planted out?
